My job requires me to be clean-shaven. I currently have some razor burn on my neck. Every time I shave, it re-iritates it, preventing any chance of it healing. Solutions?[/code]

Get a doctor's note. They can live with your facial hair for 2 days.

I always shave in the shower. Don't usually get razor burn because the wettness/humidity conditions your skin for shaving.

At the very least, apply some cool water onto your face before you shave. I used to have a problem with it as well, and I religiously use either Mach 3 Turbos or my straight razor, but I've started changing the blades after about three uses or so and I haven't had it since. I would also suggest either gel or hot later, not just shaving foam. A good aftershave can help too.

Syd, if I am reading your post correctly, you have razor burn that isn't healing, you aren't asking how to avoid razor burn, but rather how to have preexisting razor burn heal while you continue to shave.

The only way I know of is to not shave for a day or two. Like I said, a doctor's note would fix this problem. Additionally you could just go into work and tell them that you have razor burn and can't shave for two days but will be back in compliance as soon as the medical condition is resolved.

I can just imagine trying to hand my boss a doctor's note about razor burn. You'd be better off just playing hookie for a day or two.

Yeah, I agree with GP; you have to let it heal before you'll be able to get rid of it permanently.

The Army makes guys shave even in the field (which is assinine, since if you're in the field a) the only person seeing you will be your fellow soldiers or the enemy and b) its unsanitary if you cut your face after several days of not showering. But I digress.) What a lot of the guys I know do to avoid the burn is to use not shaving cream (which doesn't moisturize and is hard to wash off) but baby lotion, or lotion-infused baby wipes. Its not ideal, and apparently it really stings if you slip and cut yourself, but it does keep the dry or mostly dry razor from irritating the skin. It may be worth looking into if razor burn is an ongoing problem for you. *shrug*

If I was going to have to wear a gas mask, I would gladly shave for a better fit. For any other reason, it should be the soldier's choice as long as it doesn't impede their ability to perform.

I agree. Plus, bearded men are generally more intimidating than non-bearded men.

Yeah, gas masks don't work too well with beards. Nor do they work well when wet. But at least now I know I'm immune to tear gas.

Wait... there are details in the other thread that help you Syd!

Just trim for a large goatee. As long as you trim the outline and it doesn't look overgrown on the edges, it should be ok if the old rules still apply.

I'm thankful my job lets me have all the glorious untamed facial hair I can muster.
