Or play them blind? I always start without a walkthrough, but then end up playing with one cause I'm scared I'll miss something. I can't help, it's a neurosis of mine, I guess.

I don't play RPG's with walkthroughs if:
- It's my first time
- I'm not getting stuck
I do play an RPG with a walkthrough if:
- I've beaten it years ago and I want to get every little thing just for fun
- I'm stuck on a specific part

I don't if I really love the game. I do if I don't like it(yet play it for some dumb reason.)
NOTE: I have a sick grudge against popular RPGs & Strategy games

I looked in an FAQ on Super Mario RPG because I forgot how to get the Lazy Shell. Walking off an invisible path that only forms after a certain boss fight, that the game gives you no clue about? Wow, that's fair.

I only use them if I'm stuck in a particular area.

I just harass my friends who have played the game before. Since I'm about three years behind on games, no one remembers anything, then I stop playing the game.

Probably only time I SERIOUSLY needed a FAQ was when I was playing FF5. I ran into this satan-spawned "boss" named Gilgame (in the second dimension, an optional), that captially RAPED my party ridiciliously badly everytime when encountered. I haven't downloaded FF5 nor tried to find out how to kill it, but I still am waiting for the day that I get rid of this blackhole of shit production.
EDIT: Bored? Got enough time? Tell me how to kill this damned thing!

I have never used a FAQ to tell me where to go or what to do. About halfway through my first playthru of Baiten Kaitos though, I *did* DL a FAQ that told me all the Magnus combos as well as which Magnus were one-shot deals that could only be gotten at certain times. Interestingly enough, I didn't fuck up any of the one-shots until AFTER I had started using the FAQ.

You don't need to fight him, he's entirely optional and all you win is GP.

I played a fan-translated ROM of FF5 back in 1999 and the two optional bosses were called Omega (a robot) and Shiryuu (a dragon found in a treasure chest). Is one of them the one you know as Gilgame? Or is Gilgame a shortened version of Gilgamesh? Gilgamesh wasn't too bad to beat.
Anyway, I figured out how to beat Omega on my one, but not Shinryuu. That one I had to look up.

Gilgame is an insanely tough turtle in the Gil cave.

I have omega as a bonus level in my mugen.
I only use guides when I'm stuck or want to know how to do optional stuff.

Ooh, the turtle guy. I forget about him. I don't know if he's technically a boss, but he was damn annoying.

I only use walkthroughs if I'm really, really, seriously stuck, or if I've already beaten the game.

I agree with Murdar...
I did that with Earthbound and Harvest Moon (the original SNES game) during the rise of the internet (...and GameFAQs), the last 2 SNES games I ever bought.

Earthbound, yep. That was the exact game I did it with. You never know with that game!

I don't play with walkthroughs, but I will look things up if they're too confusing or time consuming to do by trial and error. Like inventing things in Dark Cloud 2.
Wait, I played Legend of Zelda with a walkthrough, but that was last year, so..., yeah.

I refuse to use any walkthroughs for a game unless I'm stuck at a part and I've tried every possibility I can think of. If there's anything I miss or whatever, I'll just play through the game again maybe with a walkthrough. I like playing through RPGs 2-3 times so you can get and experience everything. That and it's useful in better understanding the intricacies that may be in the plot, like watching a movie again.

Oh, yeah, and sometimes I used a walkthrough for Magic School Lunar (that "lost" Lunar game..yeah) when I didn't know the Japanese language, but that walkthrough wasn't complete.. If anyone can find a complete walkthrough for this, hit me up.

I dislike walkthroughs. If I read one I almost always stop playing the RPG for about 6 months.
The other thing I dislike is those events or items that you can miss in the first part of the game that you have to get 5 seconds after the boss fight by following an invisible path that nobody has ever mentioned to find the insignificant bauble or burmese coffee or whatever that you have to trade exactly 27 hours into the game to some old guy on the odd side of the map so you can get the item that will allow you to get the best weapon in the game.
Did you get all that? So I either look at a walkthrough (which is the only way to find these things before its too late), and stop playing or get really annoyed about 30 hours in.
I like my RPGs relaxing.

Yeah, RPG's where you can miss something and never be able to get it again are a pain in the ass. Except for FFVI, cuz let's face it, the Water Rondo was useless.

I always have to get that. Mog is one of my main characters and he just doesn't feel complete without it. I have yet to get all of Gau's Rages in one game. I need to play through that again anyway. I'm about due.
