Nintendo certainly wasn't a video game company when it was founded, in 1889. The company got its start making playing cards.
As a tribute to the companies roots, Nintendo is releasing three sets of Mario themed playing cards. Each deck has a different visual interpretation of the company mascot. |

First set is a bit too goofy, the third set is way too recent. I really like the second set though.

I never liked the style about the original SMB, outside of the mushrooms. But I loved the look of the 2 sequels.

I like how each card has a character replacing one of the symbols.
As for the styles, I don't really like the 3D characters. The 8-bit style is kinda cool, but the drawn style is the best IMO.

Nintendo never really left its roots. Nintendo-themed hanafuda cards have been a mainstay of the Japanese Club Nintendo and are also available on the North American version.
I agree that the second set of playing cards is the best.

I grew up in the SNES age so I'll put in a vote for the second one myself.

I like the 1st set best. There's something classy about the 8-bit design.

I also hate the idea that Bowser is the fucking joker. I know he's not necessarily treated like some sort of badass anymore, but damn has his stock fallen since N64 or even Mario RPG.

Bowser was a legitimate threat in Mario 64.

I know, I mean in the other games on N64 such as the Mario Party games, where he was constantly made to look like a douchebag, and even got his ass handed to him in a fistfight with Waluigi, a character who hasn't ever had any development. He was sort of an idiot in Sunshine (especially with that voice) and is even more idiotic in the new Galaxy games. I'd much prefer to put as little emphasis on the main boss until the very end of the game, much like LOZ does.

They came in the June 2004 issue of Nintendo Official Magazine UK, which is now Official Nintendo Magazine UK. The cover story was Metroid Prime 2.
All ONM issues come with nifty free pack-ins like that. Once there was a Ganondorf punching bag. Another time I got a lil' toy Mario. Also the UK mags are a good deal physically larger, and longer too.

Hell, I'd buy them. Then, we could get some Mario coins and gamble with them.
