Most people seem to consider 2 to be the best. Personally, I like Deception and Deadly Alliance the best. They showed that not only could MK survive the transition to 3D, it could fucking OWN in 3D.

I'm partial to the original MK for arcade (brings back memories of my childhood taking a ferry to New Brunswick) and MK2 for snes.

they all sucked alot, but I'll take deadly alliance over the other 3d ones, and MK trilogy over the other 3d ones.

So... SNES is the system to go for? I've never played any MK games, I thought I'd see what the fuss is about.

The SNES version of MK2 is pretty decent, I suppose. You're better off playing the straight arcade version though.

I'm still partial to the original, honestly, but MK2 is a damn close second. I had both for the PC, which was about as close as you could come to having the arcade version.
Mortal Kombat Trilogy was just a waste. It was a huge mess, and the N64 version was worst of all, reusing more arwork and animation than an episode of the '60s Spider-Man cartoon.

I like Mortal Kombat(1) the best, because it's so much easier pulling off Fatalities than in the others.
(Haven't ever tried the 3D versions yet, so you can make me eat my words...)

I like 2 because it has Baraka, and I'm pretty good with him.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is probably the fullest MK experience in my opinion. I never liked the 3d ones as much. 4 was garbage, deadly alliance and such were alright, but you honestly wont get as much fun out of any of them as you will with UMK3

Honestly, I did have some fun with MK4 on N64 as well. It was a pretty disappointing game, but it had its moments. In particular, I liked Johnny Cage's alt. costume where he was dressed as Bond and he pulled out a pistol instead of his regular weapon.

I prefer Mortal Kombat mishaps on Newgrounds.

I saw a Newgrounds MK sketch back in '01 where one of the scenes (Fatalities) involved Jax fuckin' Sonya with his metal dick, and one scene involved them doing the "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" thing... so funny ^^

Wasn't there also MK:Tournament which was in turn slightly better than MK:Gold?

MK gold was on dreamcast.
it was just MK4 with sektor and cyrax and baraka and possibly mileena or jade, as well as goro who was also in the n64 and playstation versions.

It's true, but for a time it was all we had to beat the crap out of each other and wasn't "War Zone".
I was playing Shaolin Monks pretty much all Friday night. I do enjoy the game. MK2 is an extra on that game and it was the source of the most enjoyable experiences I ever had playing Mortal Kombat. I really grew up on MK2. However, the character selection still bugs me. I wish Kano and Sonya were playable and it bugs me to no end to just have to see them chained up in the background of one level.
MK3/UMK3/MKT is a shit ball that smelled better as it rolled down. Basically the game never improved, but it kept giving us characters until every character in the MK universe appeared in it. I respect it for that.
Deadily Alliance and Deception are both fun and I have moments where I want to play one. I LOVE MK chess.
Armageddon is still a great time waster for me. Is it the best plot based game? No, but I get the completeness feeling from it... even without Khameleon.
I don't know which is my favorite, but the fact I'm still playing these games says something.
