Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon have partnered with Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes company to produce the new live-action "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie, which will reboot the film series.

Last October the rights to the "TMNT" franchise went on sale and Nickelodeon picked them up for $60 million. Around the same time, Paramount made a first look deal with the Platinum Dunes partners. The producers will begin meetings with writers in the next few weeks.

The last "TMNT" movie was the first to not be live-action. It was released in 2007 and grossed $95 million in worldwide ticket sales on a $34 million budget.

Rebooting a franchise that just got rebooted three years ago? What is this, The Incredible Hulk?

Ok people before we start to overreact about this TMNT is not some magical property that has remained untouched since the 80's and some mean bad man is killing your childhood. The turtles have been raped in full display of people for years.

Will the movie suck? Probably, yes. But the series has survived bad movies and tv shows and stupid product tie ins before.

I know I'm being a broken record on this one, but watching TMNTII whilst under the influence of psilocybin is a life altering experience.

If the result is the same, I have no problems.

But this is Michael Bay...

I thought TMNT was pretty good. The depth of the stories between the brothers, particularly Raph and Leo, were very welcome and appreciated.

I honestly don't trust Nickelodeon though, so I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I figure he'll get his requisite "helicoptor in front of the rising/setting sun" scene through a Channel 6 news chopper.

I think the issue is less that its TMNT, and more that Michael Bay is still making movies--and of classic franchises, no less.

I mean, the turtles have been screwed before, yeah. Does that mean we shouldn't care when we see Michael Bay unzipping his fly for another go? (And sorry for the image there.) Of course not.

I only ever owned one TMNT movie... Can't remember which, but I believe it was the first. But agreed, Turtles 3 sucked hardcore.

This might be our last best hope to see the Technodrome on the big screen.

Also, this movie will finally give us insight into the most important characters in the TMNT universe: the humans. We will finally get to see the drama of April, Irma, Vernon, and Casey Jones' storied lives fullied explored. Maybe the Rat King too.

Not sure how I feel about Michael Bay. The last time it was done live action Jim Henson's puppets were used though. They just don't make movies like hat anymore. I kinda nervous how this will go.

Elias Koteas(Defendor) was Casey Jones the last time around, definitely too old for the part now. I wonder who they plan to cast. They nailed ihim perfect last time.

I, for one, didn't have much of a problem with the CGI one. Especially with Patrick Stewart.

And for the record, I don't feel strongly about TMNT like I feel about other 80's cartoons; in fact, back in school I was incredibly embarrased to admit to even glance at the 80's cartoon (which is bad, considering that back then it was completely okay for guys at school to talk about Candy Candy episodes).

With that said, I can say that I won't be affected with how Michael Bay will rape it.

Worst thing he could do would be making the turtles black; I'm pretty sure he'll find a way however...

Shit.

Back in the day, at least where I was from, you were either a Turtles fan or a Transformers fan. You couldn't be both. The small piece of me that still clings to the distinction of being pro-Turtles and anti-Transformer is sad to see Bay move over to this franchise. I was happy having an underrated CGI film whilst all the Transformers fans had to watch their collective childrenhood being raped on the big screen.

Huh? Where did you live? Turtles and Transformers were completely different years. I liked transformers from like 4-7 and turtles from like 8-12. Maybe I l live in the weird area, but the two cartoons were never in competition because transformers wasn't even on air when the turtles were.

They were both syndicated cartoons, so any stations that wanted them could have been running them in the late 80s on weekday afternoons.

TMNT also had first run episodes that ran on CBS(?) on Saturday mornings long after people stopped caring about it.

Fox never had original TMNT though, IIRC.
