I just found out about this. I was trying to find a video or picture of Randall 'Tex' Cobb in Naked Gun 33 1/3 brushing his teeth with the toilet brush for the Oral Hygiene thread and I came upon a blurb in that movie's Wiki:

Wikipedia wrote:
In 2008, a sequel was announced. Naked Gun 4: Rhythm of Evil, is in early stages of production and is expected to be released in late 2010. Nielsen is likely to reprise his role as Detective Frank Drebin, however the situation with OJ Simpson and the rest of the Naked Gun cast members remain unclear.

- George Kennedy is dead. Er, wait, he's 85, so pretty close. Apparently, he's still active though.
- Priscilla Presley hasn't really been in anything since 1999, as far as I know. Also, she's 64.
- OJ S. (for anonymity) is current serving his 33 year prison sentence. Hehehe.
- Leslie Nielsen is 84 himself, but he's still pretty active.

I wonder if there may be a passing of the torch. Outside of that, I can't see this being executed well.

Has anyone else heard about this?

Well if there hasn't been any info since 2008 it's likely dead in the water.

Considering they replaced the entire cast of Police Squad, outside of Nielsen...I don't have much of a problem with it. However I did like OJ, I think it would be nice if they allow him to do this movie behind bars, kind of like the Ally McBeal parody on MadTV with Robert Downey Jr.

As long as they have Nielsen and Kennedy, I'm in.

Maybe replace OJ with Bill Cosby. That, or Ice-T. Hell, maybe get the whole SVU cast in there.

According to IMDB, it is in production and slated for 2012. I can't get any details because I'm not an IMDBPro. I wouldn't mind another Naked Gun before the End of Life As We Know Itâ„¢.

The series cames full circle when they killed off Mr. Papsmear. It doesn't make much sense to have a couple of guys in their mid 80's still doing police work.

THIS is what would push the believability scale too far to the absurd side for you? We ARE talking about the Naked Gun movies, right? You want stuff to "make sense"???

It's got to have Nielsen. It's not Naked Gun without Drebin.

Nielson has already retired in 2 of the movies, for him to come back again and play out the same plot...no thanks.

Is Peter Seagal even directing this? Or are they going to get the Epic Movie guys?

Agreed. I'm not enthusiastic about the potential of human indecency.

Yeah, I don't know how they could possibly do this given that all the actors are arranging funeral plans as we speak... they could go the Jim Carrey sequel route.

Yeah, I know it's Naked Gun, and we all know it's as awesome as a great pair of tits to look at, but the third one was pretty bad, and that was 16 years ago!

I vote nay for another Naked Gun, though I would go and see it if it came out.

You know what else was pretty bad? Rambo 3. You know what was REALLY bad? Rocky V. But both of those got amazing sequels.

And you know why all three of those movies weren't as good as they could have been? Because they were hastily authorized projects featuring bankable stars in proven franchises. You know why Rambo and Rocky Balboa ended up being good? Because the people involved had something to prove.

If Nielsen and Kennedy want to do it, and you get a competent director and scriptwriters who actually care about the characters and understand comedy, it could be fantastic.

Saying it works for those movies means it works for the Naked Gun isn't going to fly with me. Though I'd see it if it ever came out.

I can't see this being a massive hit in this market. I would almost expect a direct to DVD. I would rather see a Spy Hard sequel.

My dad took me to see one of these movies when I was a kid (Anna Nicole was in it, if that helps) He loved it, I thought it was cute, but not LOL funny. No doubt in my mind that sentiment is going to echo a thousand fold if another comes out, on a nation wide level.
