They just needed someone to come in and manage their money for them, since they dumped millions into stupid shit like making a movie studio, where the only release was a movie called "Final Fantasy" that had nothing to do with Final Fantasy.

Fantasy X.....never played
Fantasy II....ok, come on, it was pretty good, but probably one of the weakest in the series.
Legend, Tactics Advance, also never played
Fantasy VI..... okay, I'll give you that one.

Since I wasn't around when this thread was first created, and its now been brought back up....
I fucking love FFIV. More than my family.
I love its music, cast, gameplay, story, and the way it makes me feel inside.
I constantly hum the Red Wings theme, because it fucking rocks.
Do I enjoy V's Job system, yeah. I do, and I also like how its built with the same "engine" if you will as IV and it reminds me of it. While VI is being brought up, I find it quite enjoyable, but I still Love IV more than I could probably ever love a human child. Cecil, Kain, Rosa, Rydia, Edge. Mutha Fucking AWESOME. I would include Tella, but he wasn't a part of my final party since he's old and dies, and if you don't think the FFIV Boss fight with all Four Fiends isn't hard as fuck the 1st time when its unexpected and rapes you, then you lie.
I want to personally Skull Rape everyone who says FFIV is a bad game. I don't care if you think something else is better, but I don't want to hear its bad.

First of all, I love IV. I played the hell out of it when it was released as 2 back in the early SNES days. In fact no other Final Fantasy has gotten more play time with me with the exception of the first one. However all that pissed me off about it was that the characters I finished the game with were not my characters of choice. Yang was actually my favorite, but of course with the story predetermining who was in my party I unfortunately had to lose him. I think that's why I prefer V because I can have as many kick-ass monks as I want.
I don't think I said anything 'bad' about IV did I? Besides, saying that you want to 'skull rape' anyone who says something bad about a video game tells me that you should take a break and go outside and play.

The 'skull raping' was more joking than anything, and I wasn't personally attacking you when saying FFIV was 'a bad game'. I'm just saying in general. Its just a very fond childhood memory. Actually, believe it or not. I'm currently in the middle of a FFV game. I really do enjoy that game a lot. But the one Final Fantasy I remember playing again and again and again as a child was FFIV and I hold it in very high regards.

I enjoyed both games, but I'd have to say that Final Fantasy IV is a touch better.
Final Fantasy IV is kinda linear - you advance through the plot the same way, get characters at specific spots, and so on - but I think it does it rather well. There aren't too many boring parts in the game sans the towers, and the plot works. I'm always fond of the classic redemption tale (Cecil going from a Dark Knight to a Paladin) so that's probably some bias.
Final Fantasy V gives some more flexibility with the job system, but the plot advancement aspect is still pretty linear, and I don't think the game's plot matches up to IV's. The dialogue is kinda hit and miss, and the characters aren't too special in my opinion. Final thought, the job system could use a little bit more balance, since some are fantastic and some are not very good.

Yeah in V they seemed to sacrifice a little story and dialogue to focus on the game play. However it is bigger, more customizable, and I did find it to be more challenging than IV. And since it's a video game I'm fine with that even if the story's a little weaker. If you asked me which would be a better movie, however I would say without a doubt that would be IV.

I somehow missed out on the epicness that seems to be IV, I played it as a kid but didnt even think twice about it after picking up VI (and eventually V) How desperately do I need to go back and replay it?

It's good. But I still think V and VI are the peak of Final Fantasy.

Even as a huge fan of IV, I'll be completely honest and say some people just don't like the way it tastes. Like mentioned, its very Linear for a while, but I feel once it opens up, its Glorious. Pleanty of side quests, tough bosses, secrets, and getting the Adamant Armor is damn near impossible. I'd say its worth a run-through to at least be able to say you've done it now that your older.

You know I never managed to get the Adamant armor. Don't you have to get a tail from those 'pink puffs' or something?

Yeah, its those assholes on the Moon you have to fight, which finding a battle with them is tough enough, and then its like a 1-and-255 chance that they'll drop one if I remember correctly.
Speaking of, I'm playing IV right now, and just went from Dark Knight to Paladin. What the hell is up with the text at the top during that fight?
"To Become a real Paladin, You must not fight now!"
If I don't fight. Dark Knight whips my ass. Anyone know what thats all about? All these times playing it I've never understood it.

Ok, Played through 5 hours of IV, and just as I thought as a kid, I can't get into it. Im sorry, lynch me if you must, but in my mind, it's VI, X ,VII and everything after that, with IX in a close spot above the others

I know exactly what you're talking about. I have no idea what that's about. I always ignore it and fight anyway. Otherwise, like you said, you'll get your ass kicked. Maybe it's the evil spirits in there trying to throw you off?

You must be way younger that me. I've never even played a FF newer than IX.

If I recall correctly there is 1 in 64 chance of finding a pink puff in the correct room. Once you find a pink puff there is a 1 in 64 chance that they will drop a pink tail. There is one thing I don't know, if each pink puff counts towards the 64 or if it is per battle. Most of the time you get 4-5 pink puffs per battle.
As for the text, you are being instructed by your father not to fight your dark side. Instead to learn how to defend and take the higher moral path. The translation is crap, but the idea is that as a dark knight you strike first and ask questions later, as a paladin you fight only when you must and defend until that point.

Yeah, those are the numbers I've heard about as well. If I were to guess, I would say that it's a 1/64 chance to fight in a battle with Pink Puffs, but a 1/64 chance per Pink Puff destroyed to get the Tail.
I think there was a saving grace in the hardtype version though. From what I've heard, a Siren item (the item that automatically starts a battle) would always call Pink Puffs if used in that room.

Don't you need to keep defending and healing yourself? Isn't that how you win that battle?

It's been awhile since I've played it but if I remember correctly you either do that or you unequip your sword. Their was an option for that somewhere I think. Eh, it's been awhile since I've played a Final Fantasy.

I think you could actually defeat the Dark Knight (at least in the SNES FF4), but it was far easier to just Defend for three consecutive turns, which auto-wins.

Just looked it up, it's possible, best attempted on the SNES version since it has lower stats or some bull like that.

I could have sworn I already tried that. I never won once without fighting him. It's okay I prefer to kick his ass anyway.
