I don't know if it's been openly talked about before, but I want to know some opinions on it, good and bad, because I'd like to know where people stand about this sort of thing, you know?

In my honest opinion, pot is illegal.

Well, yeah, it's illegal, but should it be? These are the questions. What if no one had said, 'should alcohol be illegal' back in the 20's?
Actually, we'd probably be better off had no one asked that.

I wasn't going to respond, but...serious question deserves a serious reply.

I'm not going to be much help though because I don't really know where I stand. Never used the stuff, never really been around people who do. I do think it should be legal medicinally at the very least--it helped my grandmother quite a bit when she had hip replacement surgery; it was the only thing that helped with her pain.

Should it be available for every asshole on the street? Probably not. From what I understand its fairly harmless though, and controlling and taxing it is an AWFULLY attractive source of revenue, especially right now. If we do make it legal, there need to be some serious laws regarding driving while under the influence though. I wouldn't want any of the potheads I've ever seen behind a wheel.

I have never smoked, never drank, hell, I am nervous to take prescription medication. That being said, I think it should be legalized, because it terms of drugs, it is relatively harmless. There is evidence it increases cancer rate, but a lot of shit causes cancer these days. Sure there is an addiction argument*, but there are several things that are legal that are addictive. Might as well legalize it, tax it, and get some money out of it.

*I am sure I have gone over this before, there is a mentally addiction that can develop with cannabis use. It isn't like Cocaine where you get shakes and shill because you are off of it, but you believe you need it, more like a Gambling addiction.

technically, you can get addicted to most any type of substance. so, the addiction factor is negligible imho about legalizing it.

i have done coke & pot, but i never cared for either one. coke gave me that nasty drip, and pot didnt really do anything for me. maybe cause i didnt inhale properly, but out of all my pothead friends, weed isnt that bad.

most of my pothead friends are way more ambitious and responsible than i am. they go to school, work full time, do their side projects in terms of music etc etc... so i see nothing wrong w/legalizing it. i just think they should make it like beer where there is an age requirement or something similar in order for people to sell/buy it.

Im high as I type this but im Canadian its okay like 40% of our population is high and the other 60 accept it. Pot is a damn fine drug, if you like it then I say... why not? except I dont want it legalized because then the government would tax the shit out of it!! Screw the man!!

Let's assume it's a mixture of the two!

let's put it this way, you hear about alcoholics drinking and driving and killing someone, or someone getting liquored up and beating up a woman.

you don't hear about anyone getting in traffic accidents because of weed, or hear of them dying from weed overdosing.

but you don't hear about nasty drug trafficking with alcohol. personally if they'd legalize marijuana you'd have a lot less trafficking problems

Yeah in terms of violent crime and stuff like that, you want a society that's high on weed. People who are high don't feel like raping, killing, or burning stuff down because they're too mellow.

On the flip side though, people who are high don't feel like working or doing much of anything for that matter. I think people also dismiss pot as being as addicting as alcohol, if not more so and a ton of marijuana addicts walking around is not a society I want to live in.

I'm of the mind that if something grows out of the Earth naturally, with no assistance from man, it doesn't make sense to make it illegal. A bird could fly over your property and drop a pot seed on your property, and if it sprouts, you're going to be in trouble with the law? Doesn't seem right to me.

It increases your reaction time, making you a danger while operating machinery, and it's much more difficult to detect than alcohol, i.e. you can't do a breathalyzer for it and "he looked high to me" isn't a legally viable standard. So yes, it should be illegal.

People argue it's less dangerous than alcohol, which is legal. Well, maybe alcohol should be illegal too.

As a highly controlled, regulated, standardized medicinal substance, I have no problem with marijuana. As a recreational substance, I do.

I do think it should be illegal for the simple fact that it's not a governments place to tell people what they can and can't put in there bodies, but at the same time I don't want to see heroin or cocaine legal, so I'm a hypocrite. Some people operate well, even better, on it. Like me, I actually drive better stoned. But it's such an unpredictable thing as to how it will affect a person. If it's legal and taxed it would surly help and would probably be cheaper and a hell of a lot safer than when we buy it off the street.

I'm also kinda growing sick of pot. After my graduation this weekend, I might be done with it. But I still think it should be full on legal. I think that if responsible use was promoted and if the 'it's cool cuz it's illegal' factor was gone things would run a lot smoother for pot heads and non-pot heads alike. I'd like to see a world where it's just a thing. I wish it was the only drug period. I wish other drugs didn't exist. I wish it was either pot or alcohol, and alcohol was frowned upon.

Ok, I don't wish alcohol was frowned upon, but I do wish that marijuana wasn't. It is a wonderful little plant. It's like the green queen that comes straight from the earth to let us know that there is peace in the world, rest among the wicked, solace in the solar system. It's caused me about as much pain as joy, sometimes both at the same time. It's an ex-girlfriend. The kind your friends don't like but you wish they did because you really want to get back together with her. Her name is Mary-Jane, and you are scared to see her because you think Spider-Man will get back from fighting Doc Oc and kick your ass for smoking his weed.

Look, Syd, I'm sorry if it offends you that I brought this up on your website. I just value opinions on it.

[law abiding]I did it as a teen, but quit so i could enter the workforce, somehow every job I've every had tests for it. Haven't missed it since, but that's probably because I'm one of those get paranoid and freak out types. Also too damn expensive, and not worth the trouble if you get caught.[law abiding]

I've never understood the 'It's natural, it comes from the Earth' argument. Go smoke some poison ivy and eat a few white baneberries, then come tell me how in tune with nature you are.

if alcohol and cigarettes are legal, pot should be "decriminalized"
