I saw this earlier and it was pretty bad. The jokes were not funny, also the 3D didn't add a thing to the movie. There seemed to be none of the jokes for adults like you got in the earlier movies. Overall it was a pretty poor movie.

I really want to know why they're still making these fucking movies. Alas, this is what makes money I suppose.

I want Mike Myers to stop already. The guy is a walking piece of unfunny. The only movie he didn't kill with needless sequels was "So I Married An Ax Murderer" and I wouldn't put it past him to rehash that shit, or to even give us a sequel to "The Love Guru".

Alas, it is. Here's why they keep making them.

1st Shrek movie worldwide gross: $484 million, not including home market (DVD, BluRay sales)
Production Budget: $80 million, including advertising

Shrek 2: $919 million worldwide plus $360 million home market ($1.28 billion combined)
Production Budget: $120 million

Shrek 3: $799 million worldwide plus $175 million home market ($974 million combined)
Production Budget: $160 million.

These don't even include money made off of television rights, which is another several million of profit.

You notice there's a dip between the 2nd and 3rd, which is why they likely claim this fourth movie is the last one...to drum up more attention. If Shrek Forever After makes an asston of money again though, this won't be the last one. It looks like it made a little over $70 million in the first weekend. That's not a huge number for a Shrek film (2 and 3 beat that easily), but it will still turn a big profit after the DVD and BluRay sales.

A movie generally has to make double it's budget to break even because of what theaters take out of the ticket sales. So even a piece of shit like Shrek 3 made a lot of money (approximately $700 million).

Another thing that isn't usually added to the movie's budget amount is distrabution and advertising costs. Which for a big film like Shrek 4, could easily be over the $20 million mark.

Yeah, it's definitely over $20 mil. It was $30 million for the first one alone.

Compared to the third, this one was fairly decent

I still think this series should have stopped after the second

I agree. The third one wasn't too memorable.. But I haven't seen the new one, so I can't say.

This is what Shrek 3 should have been. Maybe I can find this guy and get a deal to write the third movie out of history.

I thought it was decent, but not nearly as good as the first one of course. And I could see some actual effort this time. It irritated the hell out of me, though, the plot was blown in the trailers.

First two were good, never bothered with the third, so never will with this. The guys at Spill.com said it wasn't as bad as the third, but I just don't see the point.
