When I die, St. Peter will bring me to the first level of Super Mario 2. I will enter the level through the bird's mouth and exit through that skyward door, at which point I will enter the glory of Heaven Almighty. Amen.
I want this on my tombstone. Then, after they fold the flag and finish playing Taps, I want the bugler to play the SMB2 theme.
Best. Funeral. Ever.

my funeral will be better.
i'm not going to let anyone know that i'm dead, then invite everyone over for a kegger. when everyone is drunk and wondering where i am, the lights are going to cut out, the beginning of the back to the future theme will play, and my casket will rise out of the ground. fog will of course be coming out of the ground around the casket as well.
then my casket will tilt vertically and launch into the sky like a rocket, and explode. my cremated ashes will rain down on my friends and loved ones like stardust.
my best friend will then read the lyrics to macho man randy savage's "perfect friend", replacing "Mr. Perfect" and "Curt" with "flyin' Jew" and "Pete".
I'm going to leave this world just like I've lived in it: making a big scene.

Funny how this thread went from SMB2 to what people's funerals will be like.
When I'm ready to die, I'm going to plan it all precisely ahead of time. I'm going to tie a rope around my ankles and a slightly shorter one around my neck and superglue my hands to my face. Then I'm gonna jump off a building and the shorter rope, or more likely some kind of metal cable, will sever my head which my hands will hold up. That way I'll dangle at street level, upside down, with my severed head held in my hands, staring at passersby. If I can figure out a way to self-eviscerate just as I get to street level, that would be make it even better.
I may even document the entire thing on video. That would be awesome.

I'm not going to have a funeral. When I die, I want to be cremated. After that, I want my ashes sprinkled on a pizza that Syd will have to eat and write an article about.

This wins, completely and forever.

I don't know what my funeral will be like, but I do have a plan for my burial. I will have seven interlocking boxes made for my coffin and my body split into even sections to fit into those boxes. The boxes will be constructed of acacia wood and plated in gold. An ornate design will be drawn over the connected boxes as a guide for its reassembly 100 years later. Each box will be buried in a different continent and a legend spread by the second generation of my family after mine, stating that the power to destroy one's enemies (that is, my nemeses in life and their descendants) will be made manifest when the boxes are assembled. Just enough of that legend will kept vague enough to make the archaeologists and treasure hunters of that era seek them out; the people I want looking for my corpse are the greedy and power-hungry. When the boxes are reassembled and the ritual performed, ghosts of me will rise out and haunt the children of the people I cursed in life. Revenge will be mine.
I'm not a bad enough dude, but I am an edgy little shit. I'll do what I can.

that sounds cool, but it also sounds like a lot of work and preparation.

Nothing a few clever legal clauses in my will can't facilitate. It will cost me all of my savings, but it will be so worth it.

Gentlemen, the mystery is solved. I have develop a patch putting a platform under the door. You can find it on my rarely updated personal blog, which is the right pic link in my signature.

Man, I just tried it, and I must say. Unbelievable.
Interesting that it would do that. Makes sense though.

Now the question is: Do you suppose the programmers intended that or is it a side effect (possibly of not having any code attached to it)?

The door does have code attached to it. Non-special objects in the code normally have two parameter bytes, the first for relative position to the previous object (or from the top of the screen if it is the first) and the second is the type of object. For doors, the next two bytes are basically the destination parameters, which I haven't exactly figured out. I imagine they are relative because if I stick the same parameters on different doors, I'll go to different places.
That door's parameters are $0000, so I imagine that it was intentional. Since the jumps are relative, I imagine that setting $0000 to any door would result in just returning to that area, but I am not certain. I'll have to test this out later.

I would guess that one byte may be relative position and the other would be the target object - door or tube - most likely in the order they appear on the overall game map.
