So I ordered it from Amazon, it was $40 so not too expensive. Ordered it on Monday and got it today.
Been playing for a couple hours now, and I'm not sure exactly what I should be thinking.
It's meant to be an homage to Zelda and 8-bit action-rpg games, obviously. I'm only 2 dungeons into the game, but so far it's really easy and the level design basically looks like it was taken straight out of Zelda, including the equivalent of the lost woods. What makes it easy so far is the sheer size of your sword. You can go to a blacksmith and upgrade your sword's length, width, strength and add beams and other bonuses, but you only get them when your health is full. If you've taken damage, your sword is puny, but if you haven't, then it's just massive.
The game doesn't take itself seriously. To put it into context, the kingdom used to be 2D and the king decided that it should be 3D to attract more tourists. There's a bunch of jokes about it being a game and other references to 80's games.
The bosses are pretty cool. Basically a lot like LttP bosses. One thing I like is that each dungeon has a portal that you activate at the end of it which can take you back and forth between the first and last rooms of the dungeon and you can revive the bosses to fight them again.
There are some side-quests, but I'm still a little worried that this game may be a little too short. It's fun so far, but if it's over in 10 hours, it won't be worth the $40.

I was too, but I figured $40 isn't so bad. Cheaper than most new releases, plus shipping was free. I was really curious about this game when I first heard about it.

I don't have a PS3, but the game still looks interesting. To me, though, it really doesn't look like one of those serious or semi-serious games, but rather one with a more relaxed or goofy feel. Some games can do it, and some can't. I'd imagine playing that type of game and getting the nostalgia would be fun, but it sounds like the game presents it in a way that's a little off-putting.
What kind of character did you create? The hero editor or whatever looked pretty cool.

I really want to play this. It'll probably be one of the first games I buy once I have a PS3.

I used one of the default characters. There's like 15 pre-made characters. I didn't have the patience to make my own before starting. Making voxel models is a tedious process. There's a couple DQ1-looking characters, a few princesses, even a Santa Claus. I took the dragon character.

Apparently things get sort of balls-hard once you get to the Fire Temple (a change from almost any game like this having the water dungeon being the worst).

I got it and liked it, but then I played Oracle of Seasons on my DS and honestly I had more fun with the GBC zelda epic. Not sure if it's fair to compare it to zelda though.

Looks fun, but it looks like the fun runs dry pretty quickly. Same issue I had w/ Breath of Death from XBL Indie Arcade.

The game looks really cute with the 3D pixel stuff, but I don't have a PS3.

Well there's a reason the Fire Temple is really hard. There are enemies in it that drain you completely down to half a heart of HP and no magic at all. And sometimes they put 3 of them in a room with 4 statues that shoot beams at you.
Plus the level is so convoluted and there's so much backtracking and looping involved, it's a real pain in the ass. And when you die, you have no choice but to start over and loop and backtrack again and again.
The Temples are made in Zelda 1 style, and with the looping, there's at least 25 rooms to go through from the beginning to the end. And that's if you already have all the keys. It's hard for the sake of hard. IMO it's not the right way to design levels.
Besides the endless backtracking, the game plays enormously like Zelda. They do point you in the right direction though, like LttP, with markers on your map.
