That ending would have been a huge slap in the face to the viewer. I wish they had used it.

I would have been so pissed if that was the ending, the only thing missing is a trumpet wah wah wah. Laughing

I think an even better ending would be if after Hanks comes back and realizes that Helen Hunt is now married with a kid, he builds a raft and goes back to the island.
