Bloody-Disgusting.com reports that the extremely secret trailer that is set to debut before Iron Man 2 on May 7. Reliable sources report that this is indeed the prequel to 2008's viral hit Cloverfield. The trailer shows a group of kids in the 70s or 80s who are shooting home movies on their Super 8 camera, and after developing the footage, find a monster in the video. FUCK YES. I'm am a HUGE Cloverfield fan.

Ugh...they're making a sequel/prequel to Cloverfield? I don't see what was so impressive about the first one to garner another movie. What a load of garbage.

A prequel? So we're going to see a bunch of amateur videos of people doing stuff around the city?

I dug Cloverfield. Had some good moments. I'll watch this prequel if JJ Abrams is involved again.

Yep! Whereas Matt Reeves directed Cloverfield and J.J. only produced, this time Abrams is in the directing chair.

This Smile

As a prequel it sounds like it'll just be home movies of someone's wedding or bachelor party. It'll be like 90 minutes of watching bad YouTube videos.

I loved Cloverfield, but shouldn't they go FORWARD in time? The monster was never killed.

While I thought Cloverfield was an interesting premise, the camera work pissed me off. I don't like when any movies do it, and super 8 camera work is going to be pretty lame.

I love those kind of "reality horror" movies, like Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity, and I especially loved Cloverfield. It just seems more real and engaging to me to film a movie that way, especially in the horror genre.

As much as I liked Cloverfield though, I don't really get why they'd do a prequel or how that'll work, but I'll definitely see it.

You're looking forward to being blinded by camera flares for two hours?

No, I'm looking forward to seeing a coming-of-age story for the female lead character...and her eventually deciding to cut all of her hair off. Will be awesome to see on shaky handhelds.

I thought people liked Star Trek. It's good to see I am sane after all for finding it silly and lame.

No, you're thinking of Michael Bay.

No, then everything would explode every two seconds and when the army engaged the monster, it would just be a big blur of motion that makes it impossible to have any fucking idea what's going on.

One guy cracking about camera flares doesn't mean you're sane. You're still crazy--Star Trek was good.

I agree with that 100%. I always thought the grainy film added something to older horror movies.

From the brief "footage" of Super 8's trailer, it doesn't seem to be as "bad" as Cloverfield. though the audience gave uttered communal "ooookay?"

It doesn't seem to be a cloverfield prequel, also it's not shakycam.

Yeah, I saw it tonight and it was...well, it was a thing. Cloverfield was a movie that I really liked right after it ended and then liked less and less the further I got from the theatre so we'll see on this one.

According to the update in the article in the first post it isn't Cloverfield anyway.
