I turn off items, not because they fuck up balance (they do.), but because I usually only play with my sister and she always complains she "doesn't know what any of them do" even though she's been playing since the original and always used items in the other 2 games.

I like using Peach, but I don't use her right out of the gates. I also always play with her in the Daisy outfit.

If the weapons are available to everyone, how does that fuck up the balance?
the only things I usually turn off are the stupid things, like the food, party balls, and sometimes the spinners.

I turn off almost everything, especially Final Smash because if there's anything that fucks up balance...it's that stupid final smash.

Only item I shut off is Final Smash, because it's a poorly implemented mechanic.

I think the final smash is alot of fun. it's really funny watching a bunch of people who have fallen into pace try to get an item all at the same time, and then everyone panicing when one guy gets it.

It's fun in a party setting. Not fun against CPUs or online.

I suppose... if you care about winning more than you care about having a good time...

Ever try Falcon boxing? Make a custom stage with a small box enclosure, start a stamina round with Captain Falcon players only, and jump in. Just try not to accidentally knee, jump or kick.

I made one that was almost impossible to win in for either person...you'd get people up to like 700% damage and they'd fly around like a pinball.

No, well mine doesn't at least, the first version I got did but then I just removed the .pac files for those stages and they reverted back. The stupid DK moving level with the water fall was the one that changed to the waiting room, and I kept it that way because I hated that level.

Well, what fun is it losing to CPUs just because the Smash Ball suddenly jerked away from you? None. And since SSBB doesn't use WiiSpeak, online matches with Smash Balls are no fun either, because you can't break the balls of the people who you stole the Smash Ball from. You have to be in the same room as the people you're playing with. I've had opponents quit over level selection. OVER FUCKING LEVEL SELECTION. One of the times we played, I picked the Donkey Kong arcade level, and both of your other friends quit the match within seconds because of it. Fuck those guys. I will concede though, that rules selection for online is flawed. Basically everyone picks their own rules and level, and then the system arbitrarily decides which ones to use.

I always thought that it should have just randomly picked someone to decide rules and level on a fight for fight basis.

I think it should let people at least know the rules while it's loading. I have no problem playing by other people's rules, but it kinda sucks that you don't know what type of match it is (coins, time, stock) until it starts and what items are on until you see them.

i agree. the online definitely needs to be revamped. too bad SSBB doesnt have any DLC or patch updates to fix that.
i havent played online in a super long time. did they ever fix the lag issue?

Well I think Nintendo planned to have the final smash happen only once a match. I'm not sure if they meant once per character or just once, but it changed sometime later. The only thing I would change is make it so you can't use the final smash multiple times in a row. Make it so someone else has to use it before you can again. I'm sick of the fighting the computer and having the same agile character get the smash ball EVERY FRIGGIN TIME!

I think there should be a Smash bar which increases as you perform combos as well when you take a beating. Sure it would be rip-off of Capcom, but you know what? IT WORKS.
They can leave in the Revenge Smash too, because that's completely reasonable.

If I can get a good connection for the Wii, I'd definitely consider getting it again. I tried TvC using Wi-fi for the first time last night and lord was it shitty.
