Just a friendly reminder (that I figured was in order given the panic on the forums last time someone created a thread about this... Wink ) that Mother's Day is a week from Sunday--that's May 9th. Gentlemen, start your shopping.

Anyone have any special plans? I'm going to take my mom out that Friday or Saturday, as we both hate fighting the crowds on the actual day itself. We'll go to dinner and possibility see a movie if she feels like it (or maybe just rent one.) I have no idea what I'm going to get her in the way of a present though. Confused

My mothers birthday is about a week after mothers day. So there is always the decision of getting two little gifts or one big one.

I used to always get my mother flowers from Wal-Mart, but since I've gone to this middle of the woods college, I struck a deal with my Maple Sap and Syrup Production teacher that every year I'm here he'll allow me to make her two gallons worth of Maple Candy for the price of one gallon, provided I help him take the tubing and clean out all the equipment.

I just take mine out to dinner. It avoids having to put any thought into it.

Thankfully mine had that sex-change operation so I'm solid for another month. Though Father's Day now puts a little extra dent in my wallet.

If any of you have mothers or grandmothers that are alive and active then tell them that you love them.

My mother has Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease and is pretty much a vegetable. My grandmother is in her 80s and has Alzheimers. She doesn't recognize me most of the time and has literally tried to kill my grandfather on a few occasions.

Wow Jack...I'm really sorry to hear that.

It's easy for a lot of us to take people in our lives for granted when they're always there for us, it must be tough to not have those people around.

I was going to get her a gift but my brothers suggested treating her to an nice meal. While it would be nice to get the family together to show our appreciation I still kind of feel like it's a cop out for some reason. I'm still considering purchasing her something useful or thoughtful, I just don't know what to get her.

Your mom probably wouldn't think it was a cop out. They usually like it when everybody gets together, and it's a bonus when she doesn't have to do the cooking.

Handwrite her a letter. That'll show more thoughtfulness than most gifts.

You're probably right. My penmanship is horrible though.

I took care of my gift today. She saw a Louis Vatton (I'm not looking up the propper spelling. I'm tired, and you know what I mean) purse she wanted and I got it for her. We'll likely grab some dinner on the day itself, as well.

My mom's birthday is tomorrow (got her an early gift a few months ago). I do remember a few years ago when her birthday and Mother's Day fell on the same day.

I'll probably send her something over facebook. That's the only way she'd make any use of it, or acknowledge it.

I bought my mom booze, because she usually drinks while watching the playoffs and considering how the Canucks are playing, I think she needs it.
