Remember that episode of "Home Improvement" when Tim finds that bag of marijuana and the episode actually isn't funny? Or on "Family Matters" when some kid brings a gun to school and everyone breaks character at the end of the episode to talk to us one-on-one.

It seems that back in the day before this third golden age of television, shows used to have that one episode where the laugh track was canned (pun terribly intended), the tone got serious, and our favorite shows turned into a moral lesson taught to us by characters we've come to trust and love.

What was your favorite PSA episode that a show did? Not those fake PSA episodes that make fun of other PSA shows, the real ones.

Not so much an episode, but does anyone else remember that anti-drugs special CBS put out that basically mashed up their entire Saturday morning line-up together for (like TMNT and Muppet Babies)? I know it had an introduction by Barbara Bush, if not Bush the Elder too.

I reitterate the episode of Degrassi High when Dwayne finds out he's HIV positive and the guest speakers come to the school to talk about living with AIDS.

Bad Blood (part 2)
Episode Number: 17
Season Num: 2
First Aired: Monday November 12, 1990

Another Fun Fact: both men who spoke at the school had aids, and both were homosexual. (very odd given they were trying to teach the kids that having aids has nothing to do with sexual orientation)

Shit, what's that Nick show with that old woman who talked to kids about important issues? There was a hysterical episode about the Clinton scandal. Question

You need to rename the thread "A very special episode of..." as that is what they always billed them as.

One I can remember:

The episode of Family Ties in which Alex loses a friend to drunk driving.

Every other Blossom episode.

And the best (worst) very special episode:

The Differn't Strokes one with the bike shop owner, who wanted to touch Arnold and Dudley after drugging them up.

I remember the Halloween episode of Family Matters where Steve Urkel was dressed up as Superman, and he thought he could beat up these criminals who were holding them hostage and robbing a bank. He had this image in his mind of beating them up, but in real life he got shot and died Crying

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Saved by the Bell episode yet where Jessie gets addicted to caffeine pills.

What about Full House's anorexia episode, where DJ wanted to be thin for Kimmy's pool party?

You Can't Do That On Television was such an amazing show. Completely ahead of its time. It's probably the reason I like sketch comedy so much, I grew up watching that shit. The best parts were Snake Eyes the bus driver and Barf. DAAAAAAAEEEEEYEEEE HEARD THAT.

The episode of Roundhouse about gun violence. The only episode not to end with singing.

Also, Chuck Norris should have guest starred on Roundhouse.

I prefer the one where Titus is in a coma and his dad shows up in the neutral space and we find out that he kidnapped Titus to save him from living with his grandparents.
