McAfee will reimburse reasonable expenses, such as a visit to a local tech support specialist. Details of this program, including steps to submit a reimbursement request, will be posted on the McAfee Web site within a few days, so please check back.
For as much as I dislike them, if they are really doing this, it is a huge sign of a company with customer service as its top priority. I hate to like them for this, but they are doing the right thing.

Well it doesn't excuse the amazing, boneheaded stupidity of the initial mistake, but as you say, at least they're doing the right thing by trying to make amends.
