I just went through the first Metroid and the first Zelda the other day and had to re-find almost everything because I forgot where shit was. I kept having to pay that door repair charge because I kept bombing the wrong doors in Zelda. Of course it's probably been over ten years since I went through either game. Also I might give Strider another try.

The old Street Fighter II games. I was never very good at fighting games, but I still played my far superior brothers once in a while on the SNES versions and lasted much longer than I do now. I guess the Versus games spoiled me.

That's no excuse. I somehow remembered the Star Tropics code for ten years without playing it.

How hard is it to remember 747? I think remembering exactly how to do the piano is much more of an accomplishment.

DDR. After trying it again after 5 years or so, I nearly tripped and fell.

I don't remember any of my old school locker combos, but I remember both bike lock combos I had as a kid. And, the last time I used either was about 20 years ago.

Archaic? Fuck you. Fuck you in your stupid fucking ears. And then your eye sockets.
1. First off, are you retarded? The LoZ world isn't all that big. Oh boohoo, you might have to explore.
2. The game came packaged with a full map of the overworld. Playing an illegal ROM? Fuck you, that's your own fault.
3. There was an in-game map. That big fucking gray box at the top of the screen? That's a map. Maybe it's not the most advanced map, but it lets you know where you are on the grid and prevents you from wandering around in circles.
4. Fourth and finally, are you retarded? You should be able to find either Level 1, 2, or 3 by accident within 10 minutes of starting a game, if not much sooner. And you should be able to be beat any one of them.

lol seems i pissed him off.
no im not playing the ROM, im playing the GBA one. the Classic NES game series and i have no map w/it. i see that stupid BS in the corner, but that doesnt count as a map.
and yes, i can find the first several levels because i remembered after playing for a while. its like riding a bike. once you do it, you dont forget. you just lose coordination for a while but then you pick it back up.
so fuck you, im not retarded.

I'm sorry, I'm just very passionate about this. People thinking that Zelda is "too hard" is the reason we get games with mandatory tutorials and maps with blinking checkpoints.

ok dad.
sorry syd
and i guess my argument is more geared towards metroid vs LOZ. i love both games and i have beaten both games, but in terms of design, they can be viewed as archaic. not hard, just old.

You know, LoZ and Final Fantasy are two games I played so much I have them almost literally memorized. I could draw you a map of the overworlds, any dungeon, what's in every treasure chest...I think I even remember at least 90% of what the townsfolk in FF say. No idea why those two games stuck with me, but they did.
The game I always have to relearn is Kirby Super Star. Its not all that hard, but I always forget the different commands and special moves for all of Kirby's powers. (And ALWAYS end up dismissing my companion when I meant to jump. I hate that.)

Super Metroid. Just started replaying it last weekend for the first time in many years. I vaguely recall something about charging a shot, dashing, and doing some massive charged up jump, but for the life of me, I have no idea how that was done.
Also, somehow missed the map of norfair, and have been wandering around completely lost for a while.

To clarify, the first quest in Zelda is pretty fuckin easy. I was mostly referring to some of those higher level dungeons in the second quest. There's no in-game map of those so I had to go by memory. Besides, consulting those maps that come with the game seems like cheating. Half the fun is to explore and get lost.

Two important things to remember abot LOZ: 1. North West, South West 2. Dungeon 5 has a bomb upgrade.

In all fairness, I still have problems remembering where level 2 is.

I've never flown on my school locker. "747" is easy to remember because of the connection with the airplane.
