again, burning the iso and yadda yadda involves know how and effort, as opposed to tossing down five bucks and haing the same results but better.
I jsut palyed contra on X Box Live arcade today and it had redone music and improved graphics, jsut to prove my point.
the glitch you are referring to isn't a glitch. Alucard starts out with a bunch of magic spells that can be done using street fighter like commands on the D pad (some weapons had special attacks like this too) and once you performed the spell once, it was put into your spellbook so you could refernce it later. adding the spells to the spellbook after you performed them was kind of dumb, as by then you already knew how to do them. most of the spells are pretty dumb anyways, and I wouldn't suggest relying on them. the only spell that you don't have right from the start is the sword brother's spell. to get that you ahve to have the sword familiar and get it to a certain level.
there WAS, however, a glitch where if you turned into a bat and did the sword brothers spell in a certain spot, you could fly around outside of the castle and get more map % than physically possible.

it was the arcade one, and no, It wasnt just me thinking hte arcade graphics were the better because I'm used to the NES ones. they actualyl added in frames and stuff so the game didn't play as clunky.
there was also all sorts of extra options like beign able to increase the difficulty and whatnot.

The most I ever played on Live was UNO using my sister's tag (I'm too cheap to get Gold for myself). DOOM was choppy as hell, but I think it's because my connection sucks.

I've only played the demo of doom, but I'm strongly considering buying it. I loved to hear it through the surround sound, but I ahted how you couldn't stretch the screen to fit a widescreen TV.
there is yet to be a perfect version of doom on a home console.

Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness also required the N64 memory card to save your game. With any luck, Konami (or for that matter any other company that released N64 titles with similar issues) has kept the source code and could conceivably rewrite the game to save to the "cartridge" battery backup instead.

Nintendo could also issue a Wii-ware update that does that for all games. Make it so any time a game tried to save to the controller pack, it saves to the HD instead.

If it were as easy as that, though, I don't see how this would have ever become an issue in the first place.

With a little clever programming, it shouldn't be too hard to work on the save feature for any games on the VC. I assume the console itself has sort of built in emulators, and you're really just downloading licensed ROMs to the console's memory itself?
If that's the case, then it's just a matter of tinkering with the file output stream of the emulator (in this case, the N64 one) to trick the ROM into thinking either your console memory or SD card really is a memory card, or however else the N64 saved (I never owned one, so I'm not all up ons)
Then again, I could be way off. Hell, I can screw up toast in the morning.

It could have been possible I'm sure. I think Nintendo were just lazy and did a straight up emulation when I'm sure they could have actually hacked it. I mean come on, they fucking made it, they should be able to hack their own software.

Have you ever not payed attention to the toaster setting, and then walked away? You hear it pop up, and then you look and it's as burnt and crispy as a stuntman who forgot his flame-retardant suit.

Meh. The arcade version of Contra wasn't as fun as the NES version. But Gauntlet is also on X-Box Arcade and the arcade version of that is way better than the NES one.
I'm wondering if the Expansion Pack will also be an issue with N64 games on the VC...

No, 'cause the Wii has the extra memory that the N64 didn't have.

True, but it depends how the games are coded. If they're coded to check for the Expansion Pack at start up, it could still be an issue even though the memory is physically there.

As far as I've read, it is VERY easy to recode the emulation to circumvent expansion packs. It's been done before, and yet the professionals at Nintendo won't do it. It takes about a line of code, so I've heard, to emulate the expansion pack. Nintendo are either lazy or just won't do it for some other reason.

Jim, are you talking about the expansion pack or do you mean the controller pack? They are two different things.
The controller pack was essentially a memcard that plugged into your N64 controller. The expansion pack was a RAM upgrade that plugged into a section on your N64 console that was marked with a giant sticker saying you should never ever touch that section of your N64.
Currently there are no games on the VC that utilize the expansion pack. You needed it for a lot of the top tier games that game out late in the system's life, such as Rogue Squadron and Majora's Mask.

You didn't need it for Rogue Squadron, but it made it look way better.
Also, what was your favorite Rogue Squadron ship? I liked the Naboo Starfighter, accessible only through a code that was hidden as a code that didn't work. You typed in "HALIFAX?" And then "YNIGWIE!" I believe.

Is "YNIGWIE" the onomatopoeia for the Jawas ululations? The Jawa sound effect is my favorite from any Star Wars movie.

And, Perfect Dark was all but useless without the Expansion Pak. I think you could play like 2 person multiplayer, and most of the options were disabled including the entire single player campaign!
