What the hell other conclusion can you draw from that headline?

There are either two options:

1) They're deliberately misleading the reader.
2) The Maine Human Rights Commission is the most retarded group of people on the planet.

Evidence supports the first one.

And I do not make any bets where one party completely controls the circumstances of the bet. "Come on our show and clear the air" is shorthand for "Let us ambush you with questions designed to push our point of view, embarrass you, and not let you speak...and if you somehow get a word in edgewise, we'll ignore it". I mean, that's Political talk show 101 (and to be fair, it's not just Fox News's game).

Also, I think the only reason to keep women in their shirts is because the majority of men would go apeshit over all the unrestrained boobage, and start jeering and taking pictures and being generally annoying.

This is correct. The law isn't there because we as a society dislike seeing breasts and find them repulsive. It's because us men really fucking love breasts and if women were able to walk down the street topless, not only would they get leered at constantly, but they'd have to endure lewd remarks, guys rubbing/exposing themselves to her, and worse. The law exists to protect women.

I have two conflicting views on this.

Firstly it's political correctness gone wrong. Who honestly thinks it's sexist that men use one bathroom and women another, it's pretty stupid. Bathrooms aren't unisex since men and women are biologically different and i'm sure there would be a lot of perving going on as well as the chances of rape increasing. People who think that it's sexist having separate bathrooms are the same sort of people who would probably think i am sexist since i listed men before women in the previous sentence.

To be honest i don't appreciate seeing men walking around topless.. not that it occurs that much around this part of the world as it's freezing nearly all the time.

On the flip side my other view is that if men can do it women should have the RIGHT to.

This, especially on that last point.

Although really, come to think of it, what would be the point? I'm certainly not going to walk around topless even if I could for exactly the reasons Al mentioned, and neither would any of the female friends I have. So its probably a useless privilege. But, I suppose if their are women out there who want to, they shouldn't be prevented by law.

Really, that would probably create a ton of trouble though. I dunno.

I learned a long time ago, if you want unbiased news about things happening in America, watch BBC news.

Or CBC, although I gotta admit they're a lot more Canada-centric (which I don't blame them for for a moment, mind) whereas BBC does tend to take a more global perspective.

You sound very confident that the evil Fox News network is misleading us to believe that the Maine Humans Rights Commissions is trying to abolish gender bathrooms in schools. We will find out when they speak for themselves tomorrow, which is one of the things Fox does more than any other cable news channel, reasoned debate. I dare anyone to prove otherwise.

So let us make a bet, if MHRC is indeed suggesting that having male & female bathrooms is discrimination, I want your signature to be "phantasmzombie is always right and should never be questioned", for a week. If I am wrong, it just wouldn't be fair for me to have a sig of your choosing because I don't post nearly as much as you do. So, if Fox is lying through their teeth on this story then I will send you 50$ American.

So I watched the interview today, and of course the story is presented that in Maine they want to eliminate gender-specific bathrooms. What is the first line out of the representative for the Center for Transgender Equality? :"Well I think importantly you need to understand that that's not what the Commission is proposing, that's not what's happening in Maine. There are no proposals to eliminate gender-specific bathrooms or gender-specific sports teams." She also encourages viewers to actually read the proposal for themselves. I'd put the interview up but it's not available yet.

It's important to understand the difference between 'gender' and 'sex'. There is a difference. Put simply, 'gender' is how you identify yourself, if you feel your are a 'boy' or a 'girl'. 'Sex' is what parts you have.

This proposal is to help keep transgendered kids feel more safe and comfortable in school. It's not to turn all bathrooms into unisex bathrooms, as anyone who skims the article is led to believe (and how most people peruse news websites). Typical FOX News.

Usa, you should have taken that bet.

Maybe, but I'm not proud.

This interview will be completely ignored. People will continue to send around the story, and ignore the rebuttal. That's why the modern media era is dangerous...it used to always be the case that people jumped on the story and ignored the correction, but you usually at least had a day, or a few hours, to check your facts, do some vetting, and so on. Nowadays, you can have a story out instantly, sent out to a wide variety of people, and anyone can report anything...a lot of times it gets out before it even gets checked.

You know, just to be on the safe side, let's surgically remove all breasts, both male and female.

Maybe we should start our own Media company. I have to be the CEO & Founder though, so our name can be the "Carver Media Group."

“The daily press is the evil principle of the modern world, and time will only serve to disclose this fact with greater and greater clearness. The capacity of the newspaper for degeneration is sophistically without limit, since it can always sink lower and lower in its choice of readers. At last it will stir up all those dregs of humanity which no state or government can control.”

-Kierkegaard
