I think I've mentioned before that I am a complete sucker for those "Sci-Fi original movies" (or Sy-Fi original movies I guess) that they play on the Sci-Fi channel. You know the ones--super low budget, usually involve either dragons or a giant mutated monster. My biggest fear when Sci-Fi became SyFy is that they would stop making these. But they haven't!

Tonight, I have discovered the Holy Grail of this genre. It is called Mega Piranhas, and it may be the most epic thing I have ever watched in my life. Seriously guys--giant flying piranhas. And they fucking eat a US Navy destroyer! All while the crew is running around screaming, "ABANDON SHIP!!!!" And I'm like, abandon ship where??? The piranhas are in the water! Not to mention the fact that the "star" of the movie is a complete (and intentional--it HAS to be intentional its so perfect) action movie cliche. The ex-military guy who gruffly tells his aghast comrades, "buck up--I need you at 100% right now." And, even while watching these giant fish eat a boat, never shows any emotion beyond a deep, manly scowl. What I can't believe is how well the actors handle themselves. They take everything with the perfect amount of over-the-top super-serious sincerity. Clearly they know what kind of movie they're making, and worked hard to make it as entertaining as humanly possible.

Its totally horrible, hilarious, and also completely frigging awesome. This + six pack + snacks = best night ever.

And you know whats even better? They showed a preview for the next movie they have coming up. Its called Sharks In Venice.

I cannot wait. Very Happy

Sharks In Venice...

That's just one of those ideas that, when you hear it, you're like "WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT????"

^ Seriously! I should mention Stephen Baldwin is in it too, which is even more perfect.

Also: one of the piranhas just ate a helicopter. Really. And yes, it was just as awesome as it sounds.
