They are gonna screw that game up something big. Which is bad considering the first three were nothing to write home about.
I can't stop noticing the lines "Drink your milkshake" written where the dude bursts through the pages.

3 day old news is awesome =P
Anyway, I was first really excited about this, but:
1. It'll be in 3D.
2. It will be developed by a western company (BottleRocket).
I'm pretty fearful, but I know Namco Bandai wouldn't give away one of their most prized franchises to the lowest common denominator.. Uh, developer. I just hope it won't turn out like Final Fight: Streetwise...

ironically I was just thinking about streetwise today. the game wasn't too bad, and if they had concentrated on the beating the shit out of people part a little more than the politics, it would have been even better.
I, for one am looking forward to a new splatterhouse.

Splatterhouse 1 and 2 were fun, 3 was okay. I hate beat 'em ups where the moveset is limited. Also 3 was short on interesting weapons, it just had shit like cinder blocks that you throw, fucking lame.

I liked all of the Splatterhouses, but I don't know how it will translate to newer consoles. Their violence and beat-em-up earned them attention in their day, but people nowadays may be too jaded for the violence and too bored by beat-em-ups. They'll have to really pull something up to make it stand out.

that's the thinking that turned streetwise from the cel shaded arcade beat em up that it was supposed to be into the gta clone with roach stomping minigames that it became.
shit, make it a beat em up like its supposed to be, the REAL fans will lve it.

I understand that. Problem is, video game budgets and development are much more costly these days. You need pretty solid sales in order to break even. Then again, maybe the idea of the game will help sell beyond the hardcore dedicated types.

Not every video game needs to be made for millions of dollars. Hell, if the Final Fight had been done as a cel-shaded beat 'em up, it would have cost a lot less to make and they could have sold it as a budget title.

New Splatterhouse to Include Original Splatterhouse Trilogy
According to the latest issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine (The Third Moon, via Kotaku), Namco-Bandai's Splatterhouse remake for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will include unlockable versions of all three original Splatterhouse games released in Arcades and on the Turbografx-16 and Sega Genesis between 1988 and 1993.
Even more exciting: The version of the original Splatterhouse that'll be included is the original "uncensored Japanese" version, not the censored Turbografx-16 version we got in the U.S. Splatterhouse 2 and 3, naturally, will be the Sega Genesis versions, considering that's the only console 2 and 3 were made for.
Still unknown is exactly how the original Splatterhouse games will be unlocked, but nice to know they're in there anyway. Meanwhile, Splatterhouse -- the new one -- still doesn't have a set release date. |

The Splatterhouse series is overrated and kinda shitty.
And it's not Splatterhouse 4. It's just called Splatterhouse, and it's a franchise reset/reimagining of the first game.
Still, I'll probably buy this.

I think calling it overrated might be a bit much, outside of this and other gaming fourms the game isn't too well known i think.

The franchise is overrated by people who talk about it. People talk about it like it's super cool and super bloody. It's really not. The new one shows promise, but the first three games really aren't anything special.

Jesus Christ, I read the fist post, saw the image and was in the middle of typing a response as to how insanely fucking old that mag cover is until I saw the post's date of origin. Egad.

<snippet from my aborted attempt at an alphabetical game review>
I'm not really sure what the story is with this game, all I know is I get to play as a guy that looks like Jason, and stomp ass through demented and gory ass levels fighting really disturbing monsters. I'm a sucker for this kind of shit, as some of you may know,
I'm a big fan of Jason. So getting to play as someone who looks kind of like him more than makes up for boring music, slow and REPETITIVE beat em up game play. The graphics are sweet though, but whoever made this game had some issues.

I honestly never saw the appeal of Splatterhouse. When I first got into emulation one of the first games I wanted to download was Splatterhouse because I had heard so much about it and never knew anyone that owned it. I downloaded it, got bored with it and never even tried to beat it. But like Syd, I will most likely get this out of curiosity.

I think if you played the game when it first came out and was relevant, you'd appreciate it more.
Kinda like how people still try to say that the NES metroid is worth playing.

I never really played the games other then a few levels of the first one and a level of the SD NES version. I might get this if it can keep me entertained like Bionic Commando... yes I said that. I enjoyed that game, want to fight about it?
And in other news related to this, I heard EGM is back in the biz...
