Boo fucking Hoo. First off, I'm almost never going to believe a girl in high school is a lesbian, because 9 times out of 10 they just like to fuck. They figure that out in college or directly afterwards and immediately regret calling themselves a lesbian because they knew they weren't in the first place.

Second off, if she is a lesbian and she knowingly wanted to flaunt it in a place that has a history of intolerance to anyone different than them, she is fucking dumb. If she expected it to be like a Lifetime movie where everyone cheers and slow claps when she brings her girlfriend, then she is also fucking dumb. There are places in this country where things like this are OPENLY accepted, if not encouraged.

Her trying to do this in a place that history has shown will almost certainly not change their attitudes towards minorities or sexuality is immature and I can't get behind her, no matter how much I want to. I truly don't care about a persons sexuality, it doesn't bother me at all. Dumbassery bothers me though.

While the author might have gone just a tad overboard with the hyperbole, I basically agree with the thesis. Those people are dicks. Banning her from and then canceling the prom is bad enough, but pulling this fake-out shit on a teenager is just...well, MEAN. And mean for the sake of being mean, which makes it worse.

Honestly though, I would think (hope) that, while it might have ruined the night, the gal in question won't take it to heart. She must have balls of steel, having grown up in that kind of environment anyway--to say nothing of taking on the school administration.

Got to love Bible Thumpers. If the bible says it's bad, then they hate it. And, in the "Bible Belt", it doesn't stop there. They get violent against things the bible doesn't like. Especially homosexuals. And, they defend themselves by quoting:

Leviticus 18:22 "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman..."

And, they seem to forget all about:

Matt. 7:1-2 "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

[If you judge with an evil heart or dark intent, God's judgement will reflect it; if you judge nobly with honesty and justice, God's judgment of you will reflect that, too.]

You're half-right on that last count...attitudes don't tend to change (not just in the South, anywhere) unless someone *forces* the issue. Like, taking it to court, say. Whether you agree with her motivation or not is up to you, but I don't think its possible to deny that little things like this, in retrospect, can turn out to be the seeds of huge change, and entire social movements (just ask Rosa Parks. Not standing up on a bus was a big part of the snowball that started the bus boycott and ultimately grew all the way into the Civil Rights movement as we know it.)

Now, do I think this gal is the next Rosa Parks? No, probably not. But claiming that something like this is not only immature, but *dumbass* is....well, shortsighted. And grossly unfair to the people who have fought and won exactly this kind of battle in the past, using tactics very similar to this.

The way the guy wrote that, I thought the lesbian girl was going to end up murdered by the end, holy shit.

That being said, I think the whole thing was stupid. How big is this town, how big is that high school that one lesbian bringing a date to prom would ruin it to the point where they would cancel it then uncancel it only to have some parents fake the girl out. If that's all it takes to fuck up your prom(and for the parents to believe prom would be ruined for their kids) then your town is a little bit too small for it's own good.

Now, that being said, what's the back story on this girl? It's one of those situations where I tend to agree with the guy who wrote it but we need to know more about the girl, there are a lot of obnoxious girls that age.

I see it going one of two ways: The people of that town are intolerant and seem pretty petty and immature OR the girl is fucking crazy and makes a scene every where she goes, lesbian or not.

Either way, I still thought they murdered her the way that guy wrote it and their are some pretty immature adults in that town(if the girl is crazy, not allowing her there or kicking her out when she gets out of hand is fine, but the whole switch-a-roo routine is going too far).

That's really going to help this thread...although I too disagree with Josh(unless new info on the girl comes out that shows her as crazy), I think wishing he be placed in a death camp because of his opinion is a bit much...

Bear in mind that she's a teenager. She most likely didn't choose to live there. That's where her family is located. If she was in her 30's and chose to live there, then I might question her judgement.

I am just annoyed how the author labels all southerners as ignorant racist fucks. He's most likely a 16 year old wearing a Obama t-shirt listening to Death Cab for Cutie. It's also the most liberal blog I have seen in a long ass fucking time, and half of that shit on the same page is incredibly misguided and obnoxious. I look at things from the middle, not the left or right which some people just can't seem to do.

I just think of all the "lesbians" I knew in High school... all 20 of them... now only two are actually "Married" together and the rest... well, let's just say College made them "straight". Ya, I think people would have taken the situation more seriously if the author didn't get so mad and go off on a rant about humanity after a dick move from some parents in Mississipi. He also made a huge deal out of the fact that this happened in a southern state, when this kind of thing is not exclusive to the south.

I read maybe four of his other articles.... I feel dumber just by thinking that I should have read them... it's terrible, he blames republicans for being dicks and not giving answers then says democrats just stand there with thumbs up their asses. The author must have been doing crack or something to be such a dick about nothing.

I'm just bored with this whole thing. I'll cut back on the hyperbole and give my honest opinion:

I am assuming the girl isn't an actual lesbian because I knew seriously at least 10-15 "lesbians" in high school and now, 7-8 years later 3/4 of them are either divorced, barefoot and pregnant or working at McDonalds. Point being they were just bored, and not an actual lesbian. They were sluts.

It annoys me when either side of the argument resorts to name calling and false assumptions, much like the blog in question. It's not poorly written or anything, it just comes off as immature.

What did the girl really think was going to happen? Here is her only possible thought process:

"OK, so we're gay and we live in a totally backwoods redneck town. Let's, like, tell everyone we're going to prom together well before prom just to start controversy. And since we're from this town we already know EXACTLY how people will react, we'll pretend to be surprised that a backwoods redneck town looks down on lesbians. Then, when shit like, hits the fan we can like totally try to buck the system, ya know?!"
