Maybe he was always like this and I never paid that close to attention, but he's an awful public speaker. This guy has about as much personality as Tiger Woods. I knew taxes are going up and that was something that was decided before Obama came into office.

Do people realize that tax levels are lower than they were under Reagan, the patron saint of low taxes? Overtaxed? We're one of the lowest-taxed countries in the world, especially if you make less than six figures. People need to stop getting information from cable news and look crap up themselves.

And yeah, Obama can definitely get boring...especially when he's off prompter. He takes way too long to answer simple questions sometimes. He needs to get to the point faster because people just tune him out when he starts with a big ass intro to every question.

One thing I've noticed is that Obama likes to use the word "folks" a lot. There are only three other people I have ever heard use that word:

1. Porky Pig
2. An associate professor in a tweed jacket who desperately tried to get us to care about Astronomy, but no one did because the entire class was only there to fulfill a GenEd requirement
3. Dave Chapelle when he was doing the white news anchor character

That's the tactic, give a long winded speech until your mind is numb. That way you won't be sure if your question was actually answered or not.

He needs to call more people jackasses. Maybe then people will pay more attention to stuff like this.

Well at least he can speak at an adult level unlike some former presidents. The thing that is depressing are more people are interested in flat nonsense talking points than the boring rational of policy and how it will affect them. If people ask a question on a topic the responses will not always come in a easy to understand response, sometime it requires (shock) thought to process it all.

Is it cool and hip to dislike whichever President is in office and that's what we're trying to do here? Is your attention span really that fucked up that you can't focus on a speech that could potentially impact whether or not you start giving 10% more of your paycheck to the government? Newsflash: Politics is boring. Shocking I know.

Also, I find it ridiculous how quickly everyone has changed from cheering on inauguration day to making fun today.

I for one, was not cheering. In fact, I consider the 2008 election to be the worst one I've followed, no matter who won.

Obama's verbosity is both a strength and a weakness for him.

In low income urban areas, people were like: "Lookit him, he uses lots of words I ain't be knowing. He's must be smart. Imma vote him."

In rural areas, people were like: "Lookit that fella, he sure talks a lot, so he's prolly lying. I ain't gonna vote for him. Yeehaw!"

This. I like Obama's speeches though, I think they are a fresh change to the cowboy swagger speeches of the former President. Lol, I remember the first time I met Jeb Bush, (I was stationed in Tallahassee) I asked him, where is your accent? He just laughed and shook his head. They were brothers, yet only one is a down home cowboy. At least Obama and Jeb just go with who they are instead of trying to make up for something by creating a false persona. As for the taxes, bring it. Tax the shit out of me. Giving back some of my paycheck is a small price to pay to try to avoid an "idiocracy" of the next generation. Besides, if you hate taxes so much stop bitching, Ive got the perfect tax plan for you:

You must have been very young or not sentient during 2000 and 2004. 2004 was the worst because you had a choice between the slimy Texan cowboy who'd already made a mess and nobody liked or the slimy robot who'd probably just make things worse.

At least in 2008, there was someone refreshing and hopeful in the race instead of just another slimy white guy with bad hair.

News flash, Obama is half white. Sure they call him black now because it benefits him being called the first black president but as soon as there's a fully black president, they'll strip him of the title and say he wasn't really black.

Race doesn't matter to me. I've grown up my entire life and never seen injustice to one race or the other, and especially in politics. I've lived in urban areas, gone to schools that are very racially integrated and have never seen outright injustice to anyone. So why is it, that 45 years after desegregation that race is important? It shouldn't be important to anyone under the age of like 60, who was around in a time when things weren't equal. I would've never known racism unless I was told about it and how far we've come in 45 years, and we're STILL on race? It really bothers me.

As far as elections? 2000 felt like a change after the debacle Clinton had in office. I never hated Clinton, but the whole scandal he was apart of and the apparent bullshit that went on from there. He didn't get a chance to really lead a country duing that time because he was too busy answering questions about his sex life. Believe me, I was glad to move on from that.

2004 wasn't too bad either. I got to meet Kerry and he wasn't a terrible guy, I didn't vote for him, but he was a better choice than Howard fuckin' Dean or someone.

2008 gave us a year where people specifically pointed to Obama's skin color as if that's a saving factor. Again, the sheer fact people point to your race, really makes me question if they're not the ones who are racis. Then we had McCain who looked like a deer in the headlights and just came off as so pathetic. The only worse choice for Republican nominee would've been Rudy Gulionni.

^ You honestly think racism magically disappeared because public schools were legally forced to integrate?

And because you don't think you've ever witnessed racism, it doesn't exist anywhere? Hmm.

And then you end with Obama's skin color being his only saving factor. Were you deliberately being ironic, or was it on accident?

No it didn't disappear, but thinking it did when we elected our President didn't change anything at all. People are still going to be who they are...that's my point. Guilting someone based on skin color never helps.

I never said it was his saving factor, that's what his supporters were saying. I don't know if I've ever had a conversation with someone about Obama where someone didn't bring up skin color. Maybe if we could look past that, we could actually judge him on the job he's doing.

I misread your skin color comment. Sorry about that.

I'm amazed you haven't had a conversation about Obama where skin color didn't come up. Where do you live? I saw this last election not as a black vs white issue, but more an old ideals vs new ideals election. And it was perfectly personified by a vibrant, young intellectual who was pitted against a member of the old establishment who finished second to last in his graduating class at the academy. Out of touch vs in the now.

It sucks that race seems so overbearing in your conversations with others about the current administration. It would be nice if you could change that and get a fresh perspective.

It's not just the people I talk to, it's the media itself. When Obama was elected, the first thing the media did was directly target the response of black people. It's things like that I find so fucking offensive, because I see two spectrums of racism; those who prey upon another race because of the negative aspects, and those who put them up on a pedastol because of what they are.

I think it would be a nice change if people didn't let their judgement of skin color affect how they think. The only time you should worry about skin color is when you're describing someone, and even then it's not something you should really do that much to begin with. You can't say you're not racist if you're overly nice to another race, simply because it's a popular thing to do. Treat everyone as equals, is that so fucking hard to understand?

Let's just replace race with something like height. Let's say we just elected a guy who was 4'11, and that everyone was praising him because he did something no one else had done, I mean doesn't that just sound silly?

I think its a sign of my weariness with political debate that I would actually rather discuss this than taxes, healthcare, or Obama's relative blackness.

And for the record, that picture Milhouse posted made me lmao far more than it should have.

When Tea Party protesters can go a rally without some kind of racial sign or chant, or when a KKK-sponsored house rep yells "YOU LIE!" to a white president, then I'll agree with you. Also, it's not like just because you're half-white, half-black, you'll be accepted with open arms into both communities.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.
