We've all at one time or another splurged for some kind of rare video game or console. What's something that you spent more money on than you care to admit but just couldn't say no to? I just pulled this bad boy out of storage and felt like sharing it. I bought it about 3 years ago for what I think was an incredible deal. I paid $650 for this. I haven't found another one for sale anywhere to get a good idea of what the worth is but I see SFII and SF Alpha machines go for over 1000 so I think I got one hell of a deal.

So what Holy Grail of your collection would you like to share?

I used to consider my copy of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 to be really rare however I don't think it's really worth much anymore considering you can get it for next gen consoles. Sentimentality-wise I'd have to say the Shadow Hearts Trilogy that I have.

Picture quality sucks, but in the picture you should be able to see all three Spyro PS1 games, F-Zero GX disc, both Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie, Battletoads and Double Dragon, Donkey Kong Country 2, Wario Land II, Pokemon Silver, a Game Boy Color with rubber armor and Wario Land 3 hiding in the slot, WCW vs. nWo: World Tour, Starcraft and it's expansion, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and finally Warioware Twisted.

All games I would never sell and would be heartbroken if they blew out on me.

I don't know, can't name just one. I like my Final Fight Arcade machine, but my SNES games bring me far much more joy. I'm super jealous of your SF Third strike though, that looks awesome and hell yes you got a good deal. Right now on craigslist there is a TMNT 4 player cab going for 300, I'm going to go check it out tomorrow if my wife caves I'll post pics.

I have a JVC X'eye, which was an uberexpensive Sega Genesis/Sega CD in one deal. Great console, though kind of annoying to play the genesis side. I just use it for CDs.

Since we are in the video game forum, I have to say my prototype Mello Yello Qbert machine, Ms. Pac-Man/Pac-Man/Galaga machine, and my Megatouch Sapphire machine. Despite the sarcasm I am still pretty proud of being the one that dumped Mello Yello Q-Bert to MAME.

I love arcade machines though. I collect classic games, but there are plenty are modern games I would love to have too. That probably will be worth a lot more as time passes.

God, I feel like such a slouch lol...I don't have *anything* like that. I do have plenty of NES/SNES carts that would be worth a bit of money, but those are all originals I bought when I was a kid. The most I've splurged on in terms of video games is just...buying a full priced $50 game rather than waiting for it to go on sale.

I know this is video games, but to fully answer the question, my biggest splurges were a) a beautiful replica of Anduril, from the LOTR movies. So gorgeous. Also a wonderful set of D&D minis I've acquired over the years, and to which I just added several Iconic minis...I got a very nice deal on them, but it was still way more than I should have spent. However, they are awesome, and so it was completely and totally worth it. Very Happy

Back on topic...those game cabinets are absolutely epic. Very well done.

Damn, I'd kill for one of those, and that SF3TS looks really nice. I have nothing that nice, but I do love my Super Nintendo collection.

When I have a sufficient amount of money, I would like to buy either a "Guilty Gear XX" or a "The Simpsons" arcade cabinet. Maybe "Street Fighter 2" or one of its incarnations.

In terms of video games, I don't have much. Spent 60 on Chrono Trigger when I found it in store, could have spent less on ebay.

For non-Video games I bought this for my hockey collection:

It's a Phil Kessel Signed Game Used stick from his rookie season. I was at a card show and didn't see any cards I needed and had all of this birthday money and wanted something I'd remember and he was traded to my favorite team around the time I got it.

There's that and a card I traded for that recieved two offers of 500 bucks. It's a one of a kind card of the main player I collect, I spent a lot on the cards I traded so I probably gave up more than I should have but I only had 100 bucks to spend and the guy had offers of 500 dollars so I had to go over the top if I wanted any chance of owning it.

Did you paint the minis? Let's see!

Sweet Kessel stick. My prized posession is a signed "almost-All Star", Rory Fitzpatrick game used stick from the 2005-2006 season.

Meh, give me a player who's won the Cup, then we'll talk. Guys who have no history of winning games in the NHL have no worth to me.

I don't have any valuable rarities in my game collection... I suppose G-Darius for ps1 is kinda rare, but not that expensive at ebay.

I bought Tomba when it first came out, I only saw it in one store and I have never seen it anywhere else since then. It still goes for about $50, but it's still pretty rare to come by. It was my first PS1 game and still one of my favorite platformers.

Omg, I used to drool over those when I was younger.

I don't have anything valuable; I'm 16, I can hardly bring a big-ass arcade cabinet into the house (although I don't think my dad would be against PONG). I do have 20-something NES and SNES carts, including Final Fantasy III and Chrono Trigger, so I'm not completely deprived.

Moving on from games, I have a book about Holocaust memoirs which was signed by one of the authors, a woman called Frieda Wineman who survived the horrors of Auschwitz to talk to teens playing Doodle Jump on iPod Touches. Funny accent aside, it was a really touching experience for me and I consider myself very fortunate to have met her.

Importing Chrono Trigger must have cost a few bob!

Surprisingly enough, it only cost me about £3, added on to £25 for the cart. Not a bad deal, until Chrono Trigger DS was announced a year later. >.<

You know, fuck you, sidewaydriver. You don't just start a thread like this with an SF3 arcade machine. No one's gonna top that!

I'm sorry, I pulled it out of storage after two years and was just so excited I had to share it. I was mostly curious to see if anyone else had any arcade machines. I was hoping Ash would post some pics of his. I want to see the Mellow Yellow Q-Bert game too.

Fair enough. I'm just jealous I don't own any machines. Someday maybe I'll be able to wow you guys with something ridiculously cool, like the Doom arcade machine they built for Grosse Pointe Blank, but right now, I got nothing.

And I too would like to see the Mellow Yellow Q-Bert machine.

The only video game I have in my possession that I think would be considered "prized" is my Earthbound game; it's used, but I also have the gigantic box and the guide that comes with it.

Plus I have a Virtual Boy. That's worth something...right?
