Good God, that's disgusting. I'll tell you, if I was interviewing people for a job, a chick with "elf ears" would get disqualified just as quickly as a dude with huge holes in his ears and a lizard tongue. You can learn a lot about people by how extensively they want to mutilate themselves.

People should be able to look the way they want and not be disqualified from getting jobs.

So by this logic every person who has had body modification done is exactly the same.

Companies should either lax their policies on dress code or they should at least allow it but ask to cover it up.

Though i can't see why you would want to do this but on saying that no body modification appeals to me.

Discrimination based on appearance isn't the issue. If you are hiring a person for a bank teller job, am I gonna hire the nice looking man who old ladies won't be afraid of, or am I gonna hire the cretin with the giant holes in his ear and tattoo's on his knuckles? Those are choices, it's not like they are discriminating against the persons regular appearance, but when you choose to make yourself look ridiculous, you also choose to lose 50% of job opportunities.

This is very true. The younger population probably has no issues seeing a someone with facial piercing, tatoos, etc. But generally, anyone over the age of 40 does have an issue with it.

And, because of the employers will not hire "modified" people to represent thier company.

So, as it stands right now, those people's career choices are either behind the scene jobs, (Warehouse workers, Manufacturing, etc.), Starbucks, or Hot Topic. That's about it.

I'm with Panda and Josh on this point, you always have to look at something from the customer's standpoint. If I go into a bank and someone has a marijuana leaf tattooed on their forehead, do I REALLY trust that person with my money? I think there should be just a bit of class to society, I shouldn't have to bend over backwards for every single person because it's socially acceptable, because it's human nature to judge. And while I don't do that based on religious or skin color, I certainly judge by someone's actions. Why should I overlook someone for not looking professional? I worked at a pizza place a few years ago, and they told me to cut my hair and shave my beard, I completely complied, because those are the standards of working there. Don't like it? Guess you can work somewhere else.

Tattooes are on the rise in general. It's depressing. The chances of me ever finding a nice, pretty, available girl who doesn't have any tattooes are very slim. And the chances that our kids wouldn't get any tattooes are almost 0%.

This is why I wish a neutron bomb holocaust would wipe out 95% of the world's human population. Most of the tattoo artists would die, and those who didn't would have to find more constructive things to do with their time. Eventually, the "art" would be forgotten and lost for centuries.

Now, wait. Did they hire you and then at a later date tell you to cut your hair and shave your beard? They told me before they hired me. They even asked me if I was comfortable with doing it, and I said yes.

I got a tattoo when I was 17, and had it removed (laser, sweet!) a few years ago.

I think it would be cool if they could develop tattoo inks that are only semi-permanent, meaning that they last for as long as you want them, but they're easily and cheaply removed some how (topical medication, perhaps). I've heard this type of thing was in development, but haven't seen it yet.

There's henna, which can last from 2 weeks to several months depending on how it's done. The downside is that it's only one color.

Yea, but I'm talking about actual tattoos, under the skin ink tattoos, that will last forever (or a really long time, at least) that are still easily removable. It would be cool to be able to get whatever tattoo you want without the "will I like this in 10 years" concern.

Yeah, that would be pretty cool. And it might be helpful for people who are addicted to tattoos, because they could just remove one and get another one put over it.

I had to think long and hard before getting my first tattoo when I was 17. I have two now, and they're both on my biceps, so they're easily covered. I also got my nose pierced about 8 months ago, and that was another important decision. Luckily, after I lost my job at 7-11, I got one right away at a call center (redbox, woo!), so hopefully I can keep the ring in for a couple more years. I'll have no problem removing it for a job though.

I once thought (not very long and/or hard, it was just a quick thought that once came across my mind) about getting the same tattoo my dad got in germany.

But then again I don't really see the appeal of tattoos unless they really MEAN something. Like a tribute or reminder of a dead relative or a friend

That happened to me. I was accepted for my current job and the first day they were like you need to cut your hair. Luckily they were happy enough for me to tie it back and don't have a problem with my beard. Though i don't get why women are allowed to have their hair not tied back yet mine does. Double standards really.

My first tattoo represents the first comic I was ever published in, and my second is my family crest. My next tattoo is going to be flames around my ankles, as drawn by my dad (he's known for te flames he paints on funny cars in BC).

I think it has to do more with the idea that customers might point it out more on a guy than on a girl.
