The only game I havn't seen mentioned that I can recommend is Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. It's a remake of the original with 4 added "introductory" chapters.

I'm nthing the Bleach: Dark Souls love. Even if you hate the source material, it'll be the best you get until Capcom gets off their asses and gives us an SF.

Retro Game Challenge is a game that never sold but should've sold (which thanks to that, we aren't getting the sequel) but it's still great. It's like basically reliving the NES era, and if "new retro" even vaguely interests you, you'll love it.

Bangai-O Spirits is great too if you've played the first one of Dreamcast, or if you just plain like mechs flying around shooting missiles everywhere and destroying shit.

Also, FF4 DS is the better FF4 here, just be prepared for a challenge.

I mentioned it on my list, just got the subtitle wrong. It is indeed a great game.

Now that I think about it, don't get Chrono Trigger DS. Chrono Trigger is one of my favorite games, but this incarnation is just far too easy (the bosses are too weak, characters stats increase too quickly, etc.)

Yeah, I wouldn't even consider those complaints. So what if the game isn't annoyingly difficult? Is it bad? No! To me, it's even better as it cuts out time wasters like grinding and frustrating cheap shots that force you to go back to the last save point (whenever that was).

I'll never understand why some people insist on being punished by video games. My time is too valuable to be wasted by pixels and I play games to enjoy them, not to feel like I've overcome something difficult. Chrono Trigger DS is the best incarnation of the game there is.

Ah, must have missed it. I played to the end and couldn't beat it with the soldiers I had left so I played through half a second time, I need to beat it one of these days.

As others have mentioned Dawn of Sorrow is a must and if you like GTA at all then I'd GTA: Chinatown Wars, it's so much better than I ever expected a Nintendo handheld version of GTA to be.

FF1 on GBA sucked balls because they neutered the difficulty. I like video games to be difficult, because I want a challenge. Would Contra have been near as fun if you started off with the spread gun and had infinite lives? Fuck no! The fact it broke your balls until you got good at it is what made it entertaining. I don't find games that are just a cake walk fun, as a general rule. If I don't have to try, what's the point?

well, we liked games when we were younger because we didnt know any better and we didnt have much basis of comparison. and since space was limited, they had to be hard to increase 'replay value.'

at least thats the conclusion i arrived at.

just buy a flash card (M3 or Supercard) and get the ROMs. most of those games you wont be able to locate either way since they are no longer being produced. you might be able to procure them at a used video game shop or on the internet, but you will be paying too much IMO

I've seen my mate do that before. Though he had an emulator on his flash drive to run it or something. It was weird.

http://www.sydlexia.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10117

just browse thru that thread and you will understand the flashcard situation better

Can't read that. I'll find it elsewhere.

Yeah at Pandajuice. I will buy some though some harder/more expensive ones i may download.

you cant read that? is that because you are not part of the NWO? you can have Optimist With Doubts add you.

I like a challenge too, but when it becomes frustrating and starts wasting my time, it stops being fun and puts me off the game. Again, I don't play video games to feel accomplished and don't need to overcome a fake challenge to have fun.

Contra might actually have been more fun if most people could get past the third level without having to use the Konami code. I don't think it was the crushing difficulty that made Contra and Battletoads fun for most people.

As username said, difficulty existed back on the NES so that games lasted longer. We no longer need that crutch. Chrono Trigger is still a good 30 hour game with all the pointless grinding and boss cheap shots removed.

Hate to bring an old thread back, but I felt like I needed to for this (even though it may very well deserve it's own thread):

Picross3D should go straight to the top of your list. Now I never played the original game, but this one is fan-fucking-tastic and I can't put it down. Now excuse me while I go do just 1 more puzzle...

^I'm a big fan of the first Picross on DS. It's perfect when you only have a little time, if you're in a waiting room, or while watching TV. I'll have to pick up this new one.

This might be a dick move from me, but Fernin used to have a big-ass list of DS games and what he thought of them. I think he covered most major titles.

As for my recommendations, I'll be quick.
Major Nintendo titles like Metroid Prime Hunters, Mario Kart, New Super Mario Bros (and Super Mario 64 DS if that's your thing), Pokemon.
Final Fantasy III and IV.
Final Fantasy Tactics A2.
Advance Wars DS and Days of Ruin.
The World Ends With You, which is probably my most favorite game on the system.
I've already mentioned Nintendo, but Super Princess Peach is quirky as hell and you should totally get it.
The whole Ace Attorney series, starting with Phoenix Wright.
Another Code / Trace Memory is a fine adventure game.
Children of Mana is a game I once spent two weeks non-stop on.
Elite Beat Agents - hilarious, addicting, hard.
Trauma Center.

That should be it.

You should totally check out the IRC channel.
While you're at it, go check out my band, Her Majesty's Heroines.
