One of my favorite HS teachers used to refer to us as slackers or turds, but it was an honest term of endearment. When Gattica came out, he promised 10 extra points on our next test if we brought our ticket stubs in, it was a Biology class.

In 5th grade I called one jackass of a teacher an "idiot teacher" to a friend of mine who didn't cover my ass to let me know said teacher was within ear shot. I got a slap on the wrist, but the teacher was VERY defensive about the remark.

One of the few jerk teacher things I remember while going through the public education system was middle school orchestra. Our teacher said we had done too much work not to have our parents attend the next concert and watch us, and that any student who didn't bring their parents to the performance would receive a D as a test grade, no exceptions. Long story short, I got the D.

One last thing was in HS Spanish, we were learning how to order things in a hotel and one of the questions on an assignment was to write how to order rooms for certain guests (handicapped, family of four, etc.) One of the questions was what a pair of newlyweds would tell the clerk. The correct answer, according to the teacher's edition, was to ask for a room with TWO beds. Despite our protestations, he graded us strictly by his book's answer.

When I was a kid I had long hair, and I remember my second grade teacher walking by one day and pulling on it really hard for no reason. WTF? Mad

A mutual friend of Atmanryu and I is of Eskimo descent and had one despised teacher (by the whole class) who would constantly call him a "Damn Jap." Eventually the parents of the kids in the class got together and decided to hold daily watches, so that the teacher had to act normal and respectful all the time until she ultimately left/transferred/quit.

My grade 9 science teacher was a bit unstable, he'd throw a rubber brain at us and go off on rants at times. My friend was wearing a skirt and he went off on a rant about kids that age wearing short skirts and I'm pretty sure he looked in her direction while ranting and raving.

My grade 11 teacher would say "fuck" every now and then when she'd over hear a student say it too often and would sometimes go on a rant about saying fuck in class and kind of make fun of the kids for saying it.

Whoever called it a power trip pretty much nailed it. You see those types of people in any profession, but it's especially dangerous with people like police officers and teachers who harass kids like that, not realizing that they're molding a permanent path for those kids.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

Anyone who was molded simply from high school deserves to work at their low paying McDonald's job.

You don't think the time you spend in school and the events that happen in it have a lasting effect on you? That's six hours of every day from when you're five to eighteen... I think it's pretty ridiculous to say it wouldn't affect you majorly. Even just talking high school, that's still three years of your life where your mind is doing massive developing. Things that happen then will affect your outlook on life and how you react to things a lot, I think.

High school is the time of your life when most people do most of their defining themselves. They can change afterward, obviously, but what you leave high school as is the slate you begin with in the adult world.
