I find myself looking over the top 100 list at least once a week having an immense amount of nostalgia each time I go through it. ......
I feel sad in a way that there is no way to recreate that magic in adulthood. I have a Wii now, and even though its a good system, it still isn't what the NES was. The NES has such a big place in my heart because it connects every significant moment of my childhood.
I guess I feel sad that the NES hasn't really been addressed much this year by the crowd here, like it is being forgotten and in all actuality it is the thing that brought us to this site.
Was the NES the perfect system or is it just a part of childhood that we can materialize when we need to?

If you want to relive your childhood, I suggest buying an NES. I think it gets addressed enough on here. I was playing Shadowgate earlier...it never gets old. Is it the perfect system? Depends on your taste...for me it is because I have the most games for it and almost every line of games I still follow had it's start on either the NES or SNES.

Force yourself upon it in a lustful frenzy, then consume part of the motherboard so it will always be with you. Also wrong forum.

If you're going to go that route, shove one of those square controllers up your ass. Squeeze to jump.

I'd recommend the dogbone controller from the NES2, the old brick controller has corners that could be problematic for insertion.

Let's lay the 8 bit assplay discussion aside for a moment and delve further into Ermac's queries.
What else is there to cover? He already covered all the good games, all the hilariously bad games, and even rare shit like All Night Nippon. What else do you want to see, shitty Taiwanese pirate cart reviews? There's been a large chunk of great SNES stuff too, I say bring on the N64 nostalgia!

ur correct in that he has covered a ton of info about the NES. I just would love full on NES reviews to happen more often. I think the NES is an important part of this site's core that has been overlooked alot this year.
Anything who wants to write about the NES on this site whether Jeebus, Syd or Vald would be awesome if they aren't sick of the topic.

In Syd's denfense, were only in march, but I understand where your coming from.
Although I think I may be one of the youngest members of the forums, I can remeber the joy and wonder of getting my NES (that still works).
That being said, I don't feel that the NES is being forgotten so much as other parts of our pop culture past are being brought back into the limelight. But I wouldn't worry too much as the NES alays seems to find some way to dominate the Front page.

shouldn't this be in video games?

I wouldn't say that the NES hasn't been mentioned much after all this is a site for discussing popular culture when the NES was popular but i can sort of see what you are saying.
It isn't forgotten though - today there seems to be a resurgence in the popularity of retro gaming be it with collecting, playing whatever. New releases for Megaman in 8 bit style, various gaming magazines exist for discussing NES as well as other platforms games - retrogamer, google that.
It may not be discussed here all that often but that may be because what is there really to discuss apart from nostalgiaing over the games of the past. Not to say that it wasn't a good system with some of the best games in video game history but it's in the past and there's only so much you can talk about especially since they don't really make the games anymore.
Not that i should be able to comment. I never owned a NES since i wasn't born in the generation it was popular, i owned a SNES and you can argue that it isn't talked about that much either - apart from maybe the SNES challenge but there is a challenge for NES aswell! In that respect the NES has no nostalgia value for me whatsoever whereas the SNES does as it's the console i grew up with.
Yeah man, its a pop culture site, not a strictly NES site or even strictly video games. There are a shit tons of pages here in the forums with discussions about the NES and they will live on forever, as will the top 100 list. Theres nowhere else to really go.

No system is "Perfect". The closest thing to the perfect console is the PC, but it's not completely relable - what if you get a virus and crash your computer? Game over.

I went to my local video store and asked if i could rent Batman forever. They said no, you'll have to bring it back in two days.

Nah. Not reasonable. The legacy's already digitally preserved via emulation. The thing that's good about emulation is that if every NES game, console, and peripheral somehow self-destructed, the legacy ofthe NES would be carried on via digital means.

Like most of us I found SydLexia through looking up top 100 NES games, but what I found was much better than another video game forum. This is a pop culture site, and to people of Syd's age (or curious youngsters), its a site where we can reminisce on all things that shaped our childhood, not just Nintendo. I love the NES as much as anyone, I still have mine and I play it all the time. If you are really looking for NES nostalgia play the games, or you could check out AVGN, he sticks to the NES mostly.
Ash is probably just home humping his SNES collection.

Ermac,
I have a suggestion. Convert the NES top 100 into Wiki articles here on Sydlexia's wiki. Then bind it together using the Mediawiki categories and links. Finally, in the discussion pages add your personal reviews and judgments. I bet people would start writing responses and the topic would begin to flourish again.

Emulators are boring to play on. Maybe that might be your taste, but personally I think emulators are total shitballs boring.

They do seem different in a way, even though I realize they are exact copies. I guess if i was holding an NES controller and playing on a little ass TV like I use to have I would enjoy them more. The controls have never felt right to me on a PC no matter how many different controllers I have tried. Plus I don't like to endorse piracy.

And Doddsino, I see two differences between emulators and real systems: The lack of the game itself, and the lack of a controller. Neither of those translates to "boring", you're still playing the exact same game. Also, it's a bit silly to decry emulators at a site that's held two NES Championships and is currently in the middle of its second SNES Championship.
