It'd really make my week or month if Nintendo ended up swerving everyone and announce a traditional console with the Wii functions as a secondary option and MS and Sony both coming out with Wii clones.

The Wii sold a lot of units because of it's price and family-oriented gameplay, not because of gimmicky motion controls.
I really wish that if companies are hell bent on exploring motion controls, at least make it optional as they do make games less fun and more frustrating to play. Even Mario Galaxy. Why can't I just push B to spin attack instead of shaking the remote? B will always respond, shaking only responded about 85% of the time.
I recently played De Blob which was a great game, but for some retarded reason instead of mapping the jump to a button, they make it so you had to thrust the wiimote downward to get your guy to jump. The game is a platformer so it gets pretty frustrating when the stupid blob doesn't jump when you want him to simply because the bar didn't recognize your thrust. It made the game worse.
Pushing buttons isn't broken, so stop trying to fix it by taking a step backward!

There's no where else for the industry to go, aside from slightly prettier games. Hence, gimmick controllers.
I mean, what other innovations have we had in gameplay recently? Heavy Rain? Heavy Rain's not innovative. It's a really, really, ridiculously pretty version of Night Trap.
Personally, I'd like to see the industry set back 30 years, because I have the Pac-Man Fever. It's driving me crazy. |
i never played night trap. and i played the demo of heavy rain, and it intrigued me. it seem like a very good game
anyone else play it? |
Yes. Heavy Rain is an awesome game. I beat it yesterday.

I love Kevin Butler commercials. This one is no different. Doesn't top the God of War III one though.

Yes I did. I got all the endings and played all the way through twice. The ending....you'll just have to play for yourself, but since you enjoy the demo, you most likely are gonna love the game.

It is, that thing was made specifically for a mech game called Steel Battalion on the Xbox. Every button on that controller gets used in-game (and about half of them come into play while starting the mech up). The best little detail of it is the red eject button under the flip-top cover (which you definitely have to use, unless you're some kind of god at the game... you will get your ass kicked, and if your mech blows up with you in it... your saved game is erased).

I've never played any type of Mech game, but that sounds fucking awesome. Was the game actually any good?

IGN: So -- you got anything that can compete against Sony's revolutionary Move controller and sub-controller?

The latest episode of GameTrailers TV featured an interview with Sony Computer Entertainment America president Jack Tretton, and he sure had quite a bit to say -- both about Sony's own projects and their competitors. On the show, Tretton promised Killzone fans that a third game in the series will indeed be announced (...eventually), and also compared Microsoft's Project Natal to the EyeToy they released for the PlayStation 2 nearly a decade ago.
"We own Guerrilla Studios and they did a great job on Killzone 1 and 2," Tretton said on the subject of Killzone 3. "I don't know when you'll see any announcements about it but I can promise you a Killzone 3." We've seen rumors about a third Killzone game before, but this is the clearest confirmation yet that it will indeed be made -- and probably fairly soon.
Moving on to the subject of Sony's Move motion controller, Tretton had some sharp words for the technology it'll be competing against when it launches alongside Microsoft's Natal this fall. "If you really want to get involved in playing with a camera I suggest you go out and buy a $99 PlayStation 2 and play some of the great technology we invented eight years ago," Tretton said. "I think ultimately [the Move] is next generation gaming."
Microsoft has of course faced the EyeToy comparison before with Natal, with director of product management Adam Greenberg saying, "We obviously could have done a motion controller if we'd have wanted to do that, but we felt that would be a much more interruptive experience." It's certainly going to be an interesting head-to-head later this year. |
