Just saw a commercial for Final Fantasy XIII, and it reminded how awful Final Fantasy is now and how awesome it used to be. I don't understand how people can still care about Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy died when the last century ended.

I hate these kinds of comparisons. They always make it seem like it's a huge difference, but in reality, it's barely noticable and only if you are really looking for it. I'll be getting the PS3 version anyway as that's the console I decided on, but these graphics comparisons are silly.

Honestly, these comparisons are only interesting in the case of games like Ghostbusters that actually do look better on the 360.
The PS3 uses high definition Blu Ray discs that have a minimum storage capacity of 25 GB. The 360 uses standard DVDs with an average storage capacity of 4.7 GB. So the cheapest Blu Ray discs have 5 times the storage capacity of a DVD. So if a PS3 game DOESN'T look better than its 360 counterpart, then the developers didn't do their job and they should be dragged into a soccer stadium and beheaded.
And honestly, who cares which version looks better? We're talking very pretty vs. very very pretty here. It's the same damn difference.

i think sony should be beheaded, simply because they made a system too hard to program for.

As long as the gameplay is good, the storyline is intriguing and the mood sets the theme, then I'll enjoy it, even if the graphics is brought down to a grade school setting.
I figure I'll do with XIII with what I did with XII, and X, wait until the price drops down after a few years then pick it up in the Bargin bin at either K-Mart, Toys'r'Us or Gamestop.

Those of you who have played FFXII should find this amusing, whether or not you enjoyed the game itself.

X was a huge turnoff to the series for me. I haven't cared enough to play a new FF since beating that one. I don't really see anything in XIII that sets it apart from the last few games so I'll keep waiting for a DS remake of V or VI.

How was FFXII anyway? I’ve been put off by the Final Fantasy series since getting the idea to play VIII and X back to back so I just wrote XII off as more the same from seeing pictures of it.
I thought IX was great though, liked just about everything about it but felt it would’ve been a stronger game if they cut the playable cast in half just leaving Zidane, Vivi, Steiner and Garnet. It would’ve added more to the whole FF1 throwback they were going for and, besides, the rest of the cast stories were more or less “I’m so lonely”.
When was the last time an ad for a Square game used actual gameplay instead of a cinematic? I want to say Secret of Evermore but that doesn't seem right.

As for FF XII, once you get used to the command scheme, it's pretty decent. The story was a bit of a departure from the norm and it takes place in the same world as Vagrant Story, though maybe not the same time period.

I think you just described my experience with Final Fantasy. I can't say I'm excited at all about XIII. I still haven't played XII. Or XI. Or X or X-2. I'm still somewhere in the middle of Final Fantasy IX. So as far behind as I am at modern video games I'll let you know in twenty years what I think of XIII when I finally play it.

X-2 ruined the only thing I liked about X which was the ending, because they made Tidus disappear forever. Of course they just had to find a way to bring him back.

Come on guys. I really enjoyed X-2! Sure, it's girl power, but look at it this way: instead of staring at androgenous emo kid #10 for 40 hours, you get 3 cool looking chicks. Plus, it's a solid game that is more fun than a lot of the other FFs that I've played, especially FFX. X-2 is my second favorite FF and you should really give it a try before writing it off.

So my friend went to the midnight release last night and picked it up and I watched him play it till like 6AM. It is nothing like XII and so far it seems highly enjoyable. I most likely will not buy it or play it for years, but I had so much fun just watching it. It's fucking beautiful, and I could see why so many people were pumped for it. The battle system seems really sweet, and except for some really lame character names (A guy named Hope...seriously? A girl named Lightning and a dude named Snow..sheesh) but yeah, I can't talk as much shit about it now because it looks pretty badass.

The problem with X-2 isn't the gender of the main characters, its that it absolutely destroys everything good about FFX. (And believe me, Tidus being a guy was not what made FFX awesome.)

See, for me that was a good thing as I found X to be boring and pretentious. I hated the skill grid system, hated most of the characters (who got a bit of a makeover for the better in X-2), and don't even get me fucking started on Blitzball. Worst mini game ever.

I think that 'feed-the-moogle' game in the Gold Saucer was worse than blitzball. Submarine hunt, Snowboarding, and Truck defending more than made up for that though. FFVII had such great minigames.

I have a solid 7 hours into the game, and while the first 5 hours are basically storyline with tutorials mixed in it is becoming very very enjoyable. I don't get all the Final Fantasy 12 hate either. Everygame has something new whether it be the fighting system, which I really like in this new one, the magic system, etc. If you want the same game download the rom and get a hack kit and build a "new" game, also considering everyones love for FFV I don't understand everyones hate for FF X-2. Don't get me wrong it's my least favorite of them all, but everyone seems to have a raging boner for more Job based FF's

Do you have programming experience with PS3? I would chalk it up to companies trying to make the game for cross platform release, would you rather do everything once and have a similar look or would you rather make two almost completely different codes for the same game, just for some graphic perks on a system you have no loyalty to? Not to mention the maintenance in the code when a change arises.

That's a good point Douche. X-2's dressphere system is basically just like the job systems from earlier FFs so it is kind of baffling that more people didn't like the game. I'm guessing a good 3/4 who claim to dislike actually never played it.
