Donkey Kong Country 3 was SUCH a disappointment.

Playing it through again, it's really not on par with 1 & 2 at all. It's so easy, and Kiddy is easily the stupidist creation to ever come from Rare.

Daaaamn.

I don't think it does live up to 1 & 2, but I think it's decent. I haven't played through it since it first came out, so maybe I should give it a run through to tweak my opinion.

I liked it, but damn, I do hate that Kiddy Kong.

Was it 2 or 3 that had that hilarious commerical with the chimps dressed as bikers?

It's a good game, but I vastly prefer 1 & 2, they just had a better atmosphere I guess. The whole jungle thing in 1 and the pirate theme in 2 was better than the generic levels in 3 in my opinion.

I only really liked 1, and I can't even go back and play that now. I'd rather play Mario world.

Didn't Shigeru Miyamoto have some huge rant about how people were willing to accept sub-par gameplay due to souped up graphics, using the DKC series as a main example?

I always found the DKC controls to be a little awkward... they're still fairly fun games though. They may not be as good as Mario or Sonic, but they're significantly better than a lot of other 16-bit platformers that came out.

Was anyone else a Nintendo Power subscriber back in the day and get that freebie promotional video for DKC? At the time I thought that was the coolest thing ever.

Sadly, no.

The coolest thing I ever got from Nintendo Power was a GCN disc with LoZ, Adventure of Link, Majora's Mask, and OOT on it. It was technically free, but it required you to provide serial numbers and/or registration codes from three Nintendo products in order for you to qualify. The thing was, only certain games had the registration codes in them. I think I ended up using my GBA serial, GCN serial, and the code that came in Double Dash. I am pretty sure the whole thing was an elaborate ploy to get you to buy a Mario Party game, as that was one of like three games that qualified.

Speaking of which, I think Nintendo should stop putting numbers on the Mario Party games. I mean, seriously, they've been cranking those things out faster than the original nine Friday the 13th movies. It offends me that they're on the 8th Mario Party and there were only 3 SMBs. And I'd be more likely to buy a Mario Party game if I didn't know from the title that it was the 8th game in mediocre series. Wait, probably not. Nintendo should just stop making those games.

All hail the crappiness of Conker. It made absolutely no sense, wasn't funny at all, and was gross for the sake of being gross. Horrible game.

Conker had its moments. I didn't like how "FUCK" was censored throughout the game. It was rated MA for God's sake!

Konker was pretty fun multiplayer, but single player made it seem like a Banjo-Kazooie clone. In fact, Donkey Kong 64 seemed like a Banjo-Kazooie clone.

Mario Party does not suck, and Hudson Soft(designers of the series) are good at that.

Conker does not suck.

I was a Nintendo Power subscriber for about 2 years back in the Original NES days. The coolest things I got were the Final Fantasy and Ninja Gaiden guidebooks.

You want to know what's sad?

I have had a single one of those magizines in over 15 years, but I still remember my Nintendo Power Subscription Number!

"08029122-2"

I use it occasionally as a password for work. Razz

I do love Hudson. My problem with Mario Party is the board game format. The mini games are fun, but the board game format slows things down considerably to the point of boredom. This is especially true with 4 players. It's boring as hell watching three other people move around the board.

The difference is that Banjo-Kazooie and Conker were both well-written games. Donkey Kong 64 was dull as shit.

I prefer WarioWare to Mario Party. Now that's some frantic shit. I wrecked a DS screen with a pass-around session of Touched. Good times.

You think that is bad?

Try playing the Dreamcast "Mario Party" rip-off: "Sonic Shuffle"

That games was boring as hell. It was designed to be like the Mario Party boardgame format, but the rules were overly complex, confusing as hell, and the mini-games sucked Donkey Kong Dick.

What about Pac-Man Fever, Namco's answer to Mario Party? Was that any good? I'd like to think it was, as it had Tiger Jackson as a selectable character.

I loved conker. some of the levles were a lot of fun. I don't know how many times I replayed teh matrix ones.

yeah syd, there was a grafickxs vs gamepaly rant from miyamoto, but it was more because he was pissed off that his creation, donkey kong, was turned into that game. there was an interview where tehy stuck him in a room wth the creator of donkey kong country and he fliped his shit at teh guy.

super mario world is one of my all time favorite games.
