So, there are certainly expensive NES and SNES carts nowadays. NEO GEO games for for a shit ton of money, too...
What 2nd or 3rd generation games do you think will be worth the most in the future? Will it be based on rarity or popularity?

I have no reason to believe the list will change in any way. It will continue to be based on rarity.

I've heard Xenogears for PS1 fetches a good price, but I'm not a collector so I don't really know.

It is if infinite rotation and a lack of statistics aren't a big deal to you.
I have these, but I don't know if they're valuable yet.

Um, they aren't? I'm sick of Vanilla Tetris, and I don't play it for that. The game really shines in its new modes, most notably Mission Mode and Puzzle Mode.

Probably the rarest/most expensive game I've got is Earthbound for the SNES. eBay'd it in the 8th grade for $40 and I couldn't believe that I hadn't picked it up earlier. I only have the cartridge (this game was packaged in a huge box with a free player's guide) but that alone seems to go for $80-ish nowadays.
I've got the pack-rat gene from both parents, though, so I won't be selling it. I guess it's assholes like us that jack up the price over the years.

I have no clue how valuable my games are, but I have a crapload of Genesis games with their cases and instruction manuals if they matter. I have SNES carts as well, but none of them are RPGs so they can't be valuable.

Be careful with so-called factory sealed games on eBay. I bought at least one Wii game that was clearly resealed.

I recently found this game for $50 brand new...TWICE
I would pick it up, if I didn't already own it.
I might have to invest in a DS soon, I enjoy Tetris a lot, and by all accounts everyone is raving about it.

I call my room a factory, so it still counts.

Question for you Syd, on the cover of your Tetris DS Box is the Wi-Fi logo on the top or on the bottom? I want this game so badly but I don't want to shell out the cash for a non-us or bootleg game.

Ah, I wouldn't know about the few old games my lil' brother hasn't completely annihilated. A boxed Super Metroid, Yoshi's Island and Donkey Kong Country for SNES... and that's about it. I don't think they're worth much.
Also, an original System Shock for PC is lying around somewhere >.<

Border down is actually a really fun shooter, its easy to pick up and play.
also seems like the Dreamcast had the best shooters of any modern system,

Speak of the devil, I came across a listing of DS games on Craigslist last night and picked up 6 games for 60 bucks. Namco Museum, Arkanoid, Diner Dash, Brain Buster, Picross and most importantly TETRIS DS! Checked em all out, completely authentic and man am I psyched. This game is amazing, finally a reason to own my DS.

I have always sort of wanted a DS, that is cool you got one and I am sure you will really enjoy it.
My problem is that I wouldn't be able to think of a time to ever play it like I do a home console. I dont take trips anymore and I dont ride a subways to work or anything.
Good choice in getting one though for 60.

I have an anxiety about playing games unless I am totally finished with work or school for the day. I just can't enjoy games in a public setting unless its at an arcade.
I wish I had ur mentality though which seems like a good balance
