Man time flies once you hit 20. I first bought this baby to play GTA3 i think it was 2001, i've since had 3 of them and they all broke! but i love the console still, and i need to get another one soon so i can bust some Stuntman and Vice city.

I still remember how my jaw dropped when I first saw a PS2 in action (a reaction that was not replicated by this current generation of systems).
Like many, I bought my PS2 to play GTA3. I got it used from my GF's younger brother. I think it was an original model, and it still works. Occasionally has a hard time recognizing that a game has been put in it, but if I mess with it for a minute I'm good to go.

I'm such a late adapter lol...
I bought my PS2 to play FFX. I've done a pretty good job of making up for lost time since then, though.
Oh, and by the way:

I was a Dreamcast guy I didn't get my PS2 until 2007 or 2008. Yeah I think 2007 because I got my PS2 after I got my 360.

Never got a PS2, but I got a backwards compatible PS3 about a year ago.I think Sony needs to bury the PS2 already. When the next gen comes out, the last gen console is supposed to die. Why does Sony insist on keeping the PS2 going? To make Wii caliber games without motion?

I was in Japan when the PS2 hit the shelves. I was single, and lucky enough to be making enough money to be able to buy it months before it hit the US. I loved this system, a video game player and DVD in one? What a deal!

I got mine in 2001 mostly to play Metal Gear Solid 2. I bought it before MGS2 came out so the first game I bought was GTA3.

I got it when Metal Gear Solid 2 came out, thought it was the best thing ever, until about 2003 where it started not reading games and then I stopped playing for quite some time because I had a Gamecube.

The NES kept going 4 years after the SNES launched.
Just sayin

You have to admire it, it's the only console from that generation that's still it's own.......man?
No one cares about the original xbox anymore, the dreamcast died early although now a cult machine, the gamecube lives on the wii, the gba lives on the ds. But the ps2 is still going quite strong considering, will it ever outlive its usefullness? probably not.

The PS2 is the new NES.
Quality wise it's the SNES
Defect wise...it's the 360 (Before the RROD there was the DRE)

The PS2 was an incredible console, in terms of games. I could kill a whole week with one of the GTA games alone. Shame mine is a dick and refuses to read DVDs.

My PS2 is the first generation bought about a month after launch. DVD's don't work any more but games play just fine. Huge cake of dust completely blocking the vents, 10 years worth and never cleaned out, still runs like a champ.

When I first played a ps2, the first game I saw first hand on it was FFX. Going from N64 graphics to FFX completely blew my mind, and I needed to get it. I got mine on Christmas 2003.
It just doesn't seem like games have evolved as much over these last 10 years (at least on the surface).
I felt the same way, when I first saw PS3 and 360, I was very underwhelmed. PS1 to PS2 was a huge leap, PS3 just made things shinnier and glossier.

I bought mine around christmas of 2000 (and it still works without a hitch!). I remember going to the mall with a friend every morning for a week during winter break to see if gamestop or ebgames had received a shipment (they were selling out instantly at the time). To deter people from selling systems on ebay, gamestop made you buy a 2nd controller, memory card and 2 games (I went with Tekken Tag and SSX) in addition to the system itself so it came out to nearly $600. To be honest my initial intention was selling it off on ebay for a quick buck, but once I booted up Tekken on my friend's machine and noticed how the graphics blew away the arcade version, I knew the thing was a keeper.

Just think, when the NES was celebrating it's 10th anniversary, gamers were already playing N64 and the 3D generation was upon us.
The NES' tenth anniversary was in 1995; The N64 hit the market the following year.

I got my PS2 at launch when I worked at FuncoLand. I remember the first game I got was Orphan. I think Dark Cloud shortly followed. I still play PS2 from time to time that system was an RPG fans wettest dream.
