It goes back to the Cold War. The US and their allies were the "first world". The Soviet Union and their allies were the "second world".
The countries not aligned with either (usually because they were insignificant) were the "third world". Nowadays the term is "developing nation", but the meaning is the same: shithole.

I'm a '91, grew up on the NES and ended up hear that way. I really like pop culture though and a lot of the shows in the 80's were still on t.v. in Canada as re-runs during the day and around the time I'd get home from school so I saw a lot of those show. I'm more interested in 90's pop culture, some things I remember and some things I was too young to understand and now can understand. Just neat to look back on what's happened since you were born.

Another one for '90, 20 years young in June. I'm not really much of an 80's guy to be real, except for all the obvious things, but the site's taught me a lot more about how it was like.

...but fuck yeah, whenever I think about the 90's (especially the latter half of the decade) I basically get high out my mind off the nostalgia.
