@username - That is like saying an officer couldn't arrest somebody for robbing a bank because the robber couldn't see the officer sitting behind the counter. That is not what entrapment is.
P.S. Never listen to your friends about law, unless they are an actual attorney or a local police officer no good can come of it . Listening to your friends on that kind of shit can get you ticketed, fined, or locked up. I can think of a few people I met that shouldn't have done that. They all have a criminal records now and they didn't need to. All they needed to do was ignore their friends and listen to the officer.
As for the article I think it is definitely one sided. I would like to hear the facts from both sides of the story if I'm going to form a solid opinion., and I don't feel that was the case.

They can deny entrance or service to anyone for any reason. That makes them private.

They're open to the public unless entrance or service is expressly denied to a person. Plus, even if they are private property, it's a public location. It doesn't matter who owns the land you're standing on, if you're shitfaced out of the comfort of your own house, or the house of a friend, you risk a night in the tank.
General rule: If a vampire can go there without an invite, don't get drunk there.

The rabbit is right Syd. Any store can ban somebody, that doesn't make them private. A bar is a store, they just sell intoxicating beverages instead of groceries, toys, tools, etc. If you shoplift from a grocery store chances are you will be banned. Just because you can't enter doesn't make it private.
Having said that being intoxicated in a bar is normal. Outside is where the problems are.

Well i would assume that pubs are generally for the public. Hence the clue in full name "public house".

I know you're allowed to drink your drink outside a bar in England, and maybe Ireland as well, but it's illegal in the US.

That is only because we have smoking bans here. Most people who drink outside are smoking and there is designated areas for that.
My point was that pub is the short for public house which would indicate that it is a public location.
