I know how most of the people on this site feel about this game, but this infograph has some rather interesting facts to it (like more than double the player population of Final Fantasy XI plays Runescape)

Ya, Runescape I think is underestimated in how many players play it. But ya, interesting article.

Celebrity list fails for not including Felicia Day.

And big fucking deal. Being successful doesn't make it good. If you need a chart to make you feel better about your hobby, your hobby sucks.

For the record, I don't play WoW (and the only MMO I might get into would be either Trek or City of Heroes/Villains).

You know what I found interesting is that most of those celebrities listed haven't been very busy the last few years. Chapelle has famously become quite a recluse and even Elijah Wood has only done voice over work since 2008.

It makes one wonder about the motivation annihilating properties of WoW.

Also, players average 22 hours per week? That seems like a low figure to me, but is encouraging as I'd assumed it was much higher.

I play the game and i love how it gloats about "it took a mere 150 developers to create...".

Create what? They use models of the exact same fucking buildings everywhere. There is no uniqueness to any of the places.

May be internet cafes. Sure that's where most of the people seem to die of exhaustion and stuff.

I think that means the average american plays 22 hours a week. So given that the people who don't play WoW are contributing 0 hours to the average....

There's no fucking way the average American plays 22 hours of warcraft a week. According to those stats there are only ~2.5 million players in America (.22 * 11.5), which is less than 1% of the country's population (304 million). If it was the average American, the figure would be significantly close to 0. It's clearly talking about the average American warcraft player. And 22 hours a week is a lot of time to be dedicating to a 6 year old game. Remember that's just the mean so approx. half of them are playing more than that.

Agreed, just think of how much real money you could make if you were tending to a real job instead. Surprised

It just shows how addicting the game really is. It is old, yet still captivates people into achieving vaporous goals that are meaningless anywhere outside WoW. And they'll literally spend hundreds of hours achieving something or waiting for a certain loot drop, then it's onto the next goal.

It's a very difficult game to break away from. I know from experience.
