Purple...or at least it looked purple to me.

The hardest part of the final boss rush is just not taking stupid damage. You really kind of need to save your HP, especially if you're going to the Bonus Level Of Hell.

Has this thread been necroed because of the upcoming WiiWare release?

You get your health restored after beating the rush.

Beat the game. I thought it was very good! The bosses were more fun than I thought they'd be.

Looking at a guide, it turns out I got the normal ending, all because I had the compassion to see if Professor Booster was okay and ended up getting the ghetto Booster. Oh well, a second playthrough will be good.

If you haven't yet, pick it up.

Compassion is for suckers.

You also miss a chance to grab the most powerful gun* and a shot at the Hell Dungeon.

*most powerful, but not necessarily the best...certain things about Cave Story are the source of endless arguments between Fernin and me. Particularly the so-called "hard mode" thing.

What gun would you say is the best then? The one that ends up shooting ducks is the most powerful at it's first level but yano i always end up powering it up.

I'm a fan of the sword, but honestly, I'd say the best overall gun is the Snake.

It really does depend on how you play and what you're doing in the game, though. Certainly not knocking the Spur.

I ended up using the default Polar Star throughout the whole game. Guess I could have gone back and traded up for the Snake or the Spur (though I think I needed the Booster 2.0 for that), or even the Nemesis, but I pretty much used nothin' but Blade for the last remainder of the game.

I'll probably pick the Spur on my next go-through for that Mega Man X feel.

In my experience, nothing downs a boss faster than the Nemesis. Unpowered, of course =)

I just found out that the release of Cave Story on WiiWare is going to cost 1200 points, which kinda sucks since I currently have a balance of 100. So now I'll have to pay $20.00 in order to purchase it, thanks to Nintendo forcing players to buy in 1000 point denominations. Lame.
