God, I still haven't pre-ordered Halo 3. If I miss that on launch day, I'm gonna kill some babies.

I really fucking hope they start off where Halo 2 ended, I was already excited about Ghosts of Onyx continuing it, the end of Halo 2. I have no idea where they're taking the series now, after reading Ghosts of Onyx. Could be on the Shield World, could be on Earth. Probably going to take place on both, and you might be able to take control of a Spartan III instead of just Chief himself.

It's a new, quicker to produce line of Spartans. Their suits aren't as strong as the Mjolnir IIs, and their wearers don't undergo bone augmentations, or anything like that, like the first two lines of Spartans. Nor do they have to choose Spartans from the highest of the highest end of the gene pool, they have a much broader number of candidates to choose from. They're still hand-picked at a young age to start Spartan training, though.

The Spartan IIIs aren't really diet Spartans. If you read the books, and paid attention to everything, the cost of a Spartan using Mjolinir II armor was more than most Warships, so it wasn't really feasible. The Spartan IIIs are much cheaper to manage, and to throw ethics out the window, are more dispensable. They're also not suited to solo combat as well as the Spartan IIs. They aren't subsitutes for a Spartan II by any means, they're just not as specialized.

If they do give you control of a Spartan III in Halo 3, I highly doubt you'll be alone. Odds are you'll be with a squad of three or more. Online co-op in story mode would be rad.

Of course, going by Halo 2. How much of First Strike was referenced in it? Not much. I'm probably talking about of my ass with all these mentions of Spartan IIIs in Halo 3.
