at any rate, he was remotely watching the bus thru the on board security cam. and thats how they were able to get the passengers off, by hacking into that feed and looping the same 45 seconds or so over & over.

It's been a while since I saw it, but I do remember that the bomb did have a digital counter that measured the speed of the bus, and also that the guy was remotely watching and could trigger the explosives anytime he felt like it...he did stipulate nobody was to be rescued (when they tried, he detonated a smaller bomb as a warning or something)
He let them get the driver off the bus because he got shot. When some other lady tried to get off he detonated the smaller bomb.
I remember being glad that she got blown up and run over. Stupid bloody woman almost got everyone killed, tut.
