I'm on a Toshiba Satellite A505 running Windows 7 Ultimate with a 2.0 GHZ Core 2 duo 4 gigs of ram and ATI Mobility Radeon hd4500 with HDMI out OR to be less technical a Laptop that can Run Crysis.
I've had it 6 months and I have only turned it off maybe 6 times. No issues other than annoyances when I ran Vista and also Windows 7 and the built in webcam don't get along.
what are you guys running?

- 1TB WD Black Hard Drive
- Dell keyboard... it is laughably uncool but I haven't found one I love to replace it yet
- Microsoft SideWinder Mouse
- HIS Radeon HD 5850
- 2x Dell UltraSharp 1900x1200 24" monitors

4GB Ram
Running OSX 10.6 and Windows Vista Ultimate. I need to take Vista off, but I'm too hot and too tired to continue.
I have a few other machines scattered around but use them for utility stuff. They tend to be business model Dells/Lenovos that are good at what they do and don't do much else.

I'm in the market for a new laptop. I've never owned a laptop before, so I'm not exactly sure what I should be looking for. I've heard good things about Toshiba's, so I might look at them first.

They do make quality machines. The first question when buying a laptop should always be:
What do I want to do on it?
That will dictate which one you should get.

I own an ACER Ballsack 6000. It's two and a half years old, has virtually no space left in either hardrive, and needs to have a fan pointed at it to prevent it from turning off.

My uses for the laptop will pretty much just be simple stuff.....internet browsing, listening to music, watching youtube, etc. Usually doing all those things simultaneously.

You would almost be better off getting a Netbook.
If you just want a portible internet browser, that would be the way to go.

Hmm, really? I heard that a lot of people don't like Netbooks because they're underpowered, but I guess I'm not really pushing the system requirements too much. Will take it under advisement, thanks.

They are getting better, but before you pick any laptop out, you should probably figure out how big you want the screen to be and how heavy the laptop can be.
After that you need to decide if a CD rom, Webcam, bluetooth, etc... are important to you. But size first.

Well I'm not really going to be carrying this laptop around that much......just around the house. I'm going to be moving into a small place with the GF, and so I'd like to have a laptop because it negates the need for a desk/dedicated computer space. Weight isn't really an issue. As for screen size, I suppose I'd like the largest screen my budget will allow, without sacrificing other features too much. I'd like to spend $700 or less.

Well, if your budget is around $700, then go for a real laptop.

might as well, since netbooks are less than half that.

My Laptop's specs are comperable to the Taito X2 board that Street Fighter IV and BlazBlue Run on (and I do have BlazBlue Continuum shift on this)
I mostly use my lappy for emulation I run everything from 2600-PS1 and I'm attempting Dreamcast (a real pain)
I do use this for school work and web stuffs.music (which I keep on a 700 gig external drive not enough I need a 2 TB for everything else)
For my first laptop it's a great machine and I think the last Toshiba to use an ATI Card.
