Any of the misnomers that are reported by BradyGames strategy guides. I had one for FFVII that said the Final Attack materia was in the Chocobo Square... and only years later did I find out that it was in the Battle Square. My friend and I had two PS's hooked up playing the Chocobo Races on two TVs trying to get it. We probably spent 120 man-hours within two weeks on that bullshit. I have never dealt with BradyGames guides since.

Their World of Warcraft guide that's included in every Battle Chest has tons of errors, too. Go west instead of go east, wrong item descriptions...

That just reminded me of a video game lie I remember my brother telling me about 20 years ago. I'd not beaten the original Zelda yet, but I had gotten to Ganon. I foolishly didn't know about the silver arrows, so I kept stabbing Ganon, he'd turn brown, then eventually recover if memory serves. Whatever the case, I still remember not killing him.

My brother chimed in with "you gotta keep stabbing him, he bows down a little more each time, and when he's bowed down completely, you beat him."

I used to spread the rumor on various boards and in school about Syphon Filter and the Taser. Hold down the taser button for an hour and the bad guys will be skeletons.
