K, so I have an 8Gb iPod Nano, and I can fit an average of 1880-1900 songs on it, no problem.
Something happened, and I've been reloading music into iTunes now. It's a retardedly long process as almost everything is WMA and needs to be converted. I've made it to T now, so I'm about three quarters down, 1377 songs to be exact.
My question is: WHY THE FUCK IS THAT 10.24Gb????? WHAT THE FUCK??

idk. i have the same issue, except its only about 75 songs that need to be converted.
what you can do, since im assuming most of your music is ripped from your CD's, and im guessing you use windows media player, you can just change the settings in media player so that when you rip your CD's they get ripped as MP3's instead of WMA's. that way iTunes doesnt have to convert them.
granted, its probably too late for that now, but just a thought

Do you even really need over 1500 songs? Jesus, that seems like a lot.

No, that is absolutely crazy. Isn't there a way in iTunes to find the duplicates and delete them?

well, there are duplicates because of the discography torrent i download. those who download them understand it.
for example, i have 3 versions of Bem Bem Maria by the Gipsy Kings. one from the rare & unplugged album, one from the hit collection 2000 album and one from the very best of CD. so, its the same song, but off a different album.
happens w/a lot of these artists (rolling stones, black sabbath, iron maiden, bob dylan et al)

When I download a torrent, uTorrent gives me the option to select which of the files included in the torrent that I would like to omit. This is handy because when I'm downloading a discography I can just uncheck all the albums I've already got. Once I find an artist I like, I usually have to download all of their music. :\ There are exactly 4900 songs on my iPod.

A fifteen hundred song collection would be ridiculously small. I just did some rough estimates, and I have about 12 000 different songs, out of the music I actually listen to. I don't keep any of it on a computer, though.

If you're the kind of person who listens to music all the time, wherever you go, 1500 songs isn't too many.

BitTorrent allows this as well. most of the CD's i had were lost (i.e. someone borrowed + never returned them) so i had to start my collection over from scratch. and some of those greatest hits CD's have songs that werent available on the other albums. so i basically download everything

I'm in the same boat......I lost a couple of books with about 100 CD's in them. To make matters worse I'm also one of those people who prefers owning a CD to downloading music, so I'm (slowly) trying to rebuild what was lost. Overstock.com seems to be the best place I've found to buy CD's. They've got a lot of them for not much over $5

Most likely you're converting them at a higher quality than what you previously had before, hence the files are taking up more space.

I'm no smart guy, but I think it's because now you not only have the original wma files, but you also have the converted songs taking up space. it's like you have every song twice.

That can't be because I deleted iTunes and downloaded it again. And the Gb count was at zero when I started. Hopefully it's just the quality issue.
