Ya, pretty much, Capcom is bringing Street Fighter to the iPhone
| IGN wrote: |
This is no quickie, banged-out port. Capcom has taken months to come up with suitable controls for a platform with no physical buttons, employing a virtual pad and move buttons to recreate the arcade stick right on the touchscreen. After all, without great controls, what's the point?
Capcom is not accepting any loss of the console game's beloved art direction in the iPhone edition. It has taken assets straight from the current-gen code, so the new art style that won universal accolades is faithfully recreated on the iPhone's smaller, but crisp screen. In our shots of Ken and Ryu battling it out, you can see the fidelity to the console version at play. These are the same models, just slightly scaled down – but with minimal loss of detail or color.......And it isn't just art direction that Capcom is bringing to the iPhone's Street Fighter IV. Capcom promises that fan-favorite fighters beyond Ryu and Ken (the first two Capcom is willing to confirm) will round out a large roster. While names are not yet spoken, Capcom has confirmed that the iPhone cast features both classic brawlers and new characters created for Street Fighter IV. So, there is an excellent chance your personal favorite will end up in the mix. Each fighter has their complete move set, including the Ultras. The animations for the over-the-top Ultras have not been cut either. Expect to see those screen-popping bursts of punches and kicks explode on the iPhone.
Now, hardcore gamers coming into Street Fighter IV with lofty expectations are understandably concerned about whether or not Capcom's virtual pad will offer the same, precise controls needed to truly master the game. That's fair because to competitive players, Street Fighter is a contest of exactness and finesse. To alleviate worries, Capcom offers a number of control configurations so players can find their favorite position, button transparency, and set-up. Street Fighter IV also includes a Dojo Mode for training, giving you ample opportunity to get used to the controls before heading into a tournament or into a multiplayer match. |

I personally don't have an iPhone, but I have to applaud Capcom, this looks very impressive.

So the Wii wasn't powerful enough for SFIV, but iPhone gets a full blown port?
While it is technically impressive and looks decent enough graphically, those controls fail on so many levels (are those special moves buttons??). I remember the GBA ports of Hyper Fighting and Alpha 3 being damn near unplayable because of gimped controls and this looks to be far worse. While it is a neat novelty, it looks more frustrating than fun to play.

This.
It'll be terrible. Pretty much every iPhone game is terrible. The iPhone is not, and will never be, a serious gaming device. Its interface is too restrictive and its battery life precludes it. The iPhone is only good for distraction games. Something like Peggle that you're only gonna play for 10-20 minutes at a time.

Yeah, it really is bullshit that this is getting a port and not the Wii. If we can't have SSFIV, at least get us normal SFIV with maybe Mario as a bonus character for the hell of it.

it's pretty simple why this is existing and not a wii version.
right now downloadable games for the iphone are selling well, and everyone seems to think this is the future. it's rather stupid, but due to the wii not getting any of these big fighting games, it got tatsunoko vs capcom, so whats teh point of complaining?

This.
Tatsunoko Vs Capcom is such a gift from Capcom to (American) Wii owners that I have trouble bashing them.

CvT is awesome, and if I had to pick between CvT or SF4, I'd pick CvT. Not to mention that they've pretty much said CvT2 is definitely happening.
But it's still infuriating that the iPhone is getting a port of this game. How many times have we heard Capcom say: "Oh, we can't port this game to the Wii, the hardware can't handle it and we don't want to distort our original vision."
And then they put it on the fucking iPhone. You'd think I'd be happy about this, since I have an iPhone. But I'm not. It'll be shit, and I much rather see it on the Wii, the DS, or the PSP. These are all platforms that are better suited to house it. You know why? BECAUSE THEY HAVE FUCKING BUTTONS.

Yeah that is my point on the matter. Capcom sad back and forth nos to SF4 on wii due to HW limits. So this isn't an issue of what game is better or where it would sell, it's an issue of skulduggery.

I think Capcom just likes to think that the Wii is only for spinoffs and remakes....

The "Vs." series is pretty-well established.

I don't like how capcom considers all of their vs games one series. tehy are all pretty unique. Personally I feel that there's a Marvel Vs. Capcom series, a Capcom Vs. SNK series, and now a Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom series.

Would you consider Xmen Vs. Street Fighter part of the MvC brand then?

X-Men Vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Vs. Capcom, and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 are all considered MVC to me.

Yea I can dig that, they all have different engines.
I was always kinda in a similar boat with the titles, however they all tend to be "over-the-top" in one sense or another and seem to be categorized as such.

The MVC series is a lot diferent than the CVS series. The main difference is that MVC is actually good.

They just play differently. CvS is harder to master IMO and far less broken than MvC (especially MvC 2).

Well, I'd like to think that this port will be a bit more technologically advanced than the original. But it's still pretty infuriating (they need to do a fucking PSP port first).
And while CvT is awesome, it plays pretty differently to Street Fighter IV. Sure, they have all the same button combos, but SFIV doesn't have the floaty-juggly combo physics that is the hallmark of CvT and MvC.

The litmus test for whether a VS. game is good or not is this:
Does Ryu's Super Hadouken look really fucking badass?
If it doesn't, if it's just a slightly bigger fireball that only connects for 4-6 hits, then the game sucks. Sorry Street Fighter Alpha.

If you're really into the King of Fighters games you'll enjoy CVS.

I love the SNK guys in CVS. Love them. But the Capcom guys don't play the way I want Capcom guys to play.

I personally liked CvS2 quite a bit, but then again I prefer the traditional SF games to the over the top Marvel games.

Give me some examples.
Interestingly, I felt that the capcom Guys played nicely, and some of the SNK guys felt weird. Ken is at his best in this game, IMO, and the only iteration of Sakura that I like more is from SFIV. I also found Yun to be a pleasure to play as.
I'm an Iori player in most of the KOF games, but I can't stand him in CVS. I also found that Ryo plays more like he did in Art of Fighting (which is totally different than his KOF incarnations) so it's difficult for me to adapt. Athena works nicely though, barring the loss of some of her more flavorful tricks.
I have to say though, I found that after playing as Rolento in CVS2, I can't use him in Alpha worth a damn, and Guile is unplayable in the first CVS with the four buttons. I also feel that Kyosuke didn't transition well from Rival Schools to this new system.
Maybe it's something to do with a person's play style, or the characters that they choose? This intrigues me.
