I think I could've enjoyed RE5 more if it weren't for the enforced 2nd player part of it. CPU controlled, she was an idiot. Second player? My wife always insisted on playing, and while it's awesome I am married to someone that wants to play video games with me, it's not a great thing when this is the first Resident Evil game she's ever played.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas. |

I was pretty lucky when I played. I had my little brother to play with and didn't have to deal with the frustrations of the CPU player.
That being said, RE5 is a pretty forgettable game. Nothing really stood out. Even though you can unlock costumes and unlimited ammo weapons, there was just little reason for me to play through again. Although, those last few scenes are easy to make fun of.

By definition, the RE series has always been dead. They are fighting zombies and other ra-animated corpses, not Nazis or pedestrians.

Not in 4 and 5. The enemies are no longer dead. They are living carriers of the T-Virus and it's various mutations.

THIS. Same here, I was stoked to play this game, but it is near impossible to enjoy with the computer hosing you at every corner. WTF Capcom? RE4 = Great Game, why fuck with that formula? Innovation is often overrated.

They are pretty much dead (at least on the inside).

I just want the puzzle solving, confined spaces, creepiness, and the feel that Restident Evil 0,1,2,3, and Code V had.
Not a 3rd person shoot em up.
4 and 5 should have been a side franchise. Like that rail shooter one was. They are okay games, but they just don't feel like RE anymore.

I heard that they scrapped earlier builds of RE4 because it wasn't fun to play.
I don't really mind the way the gameplay has progressed. From someone who's played teh shit out of both Gears and RE, I can tell you that RE5 is definitely not the same. The focus on the newer resident evil games has just changed from B-movie scares to tension and pure survival. sure, it's not for everyone, but that's why we still have games like silent hill and whatnot coming out.
Believe me, I love resident evil. I love resident evil enough to spend $60 on the archive book that capcom released. I love resident evil enough to track down the same game on different systems to play them alongside each other and look for differences. I love resident evil enough to collect all the action figures and comics and weird preorder bonuses, no matter how ridiculous they are. Hell, I think I'm the only guy on the planet that bought degeneration on Blu Ray, but at the end of the day, I don't think resident evil would survive as a franchise unless they tried something new like this.
I'm sure storyline wise, things will go back to umbrella and zombies eventually. it's already being hinted at sorta.

In all honesty billy's probably dead. Trying to escape the raccoon forest with only a few rounds left in all of your weapons? on foot?
Also, RE5 is the last RE game in the current form (the series director has confirmed this) the next two titles will be another total changeup in the series.

leon still in his RPD suit for no reason teaming up with barry to take out zombies on a cruise liner? sounds like the buddy comedy of the year!

That should have been the movie script! Would have been better than the movies they actually made.

I never beat RE5, but I did enjoy it somewhat. But the bottom line is it just isn't scary anymore. Like FNJ said, I'm glad they did try something new but it just isn't my cup of tea. Resident Evil on my Saturn still scares me when I blow the dust off of it and play it. Resident Evil 5 did not make me jump at all. It was an interesting take on the franchise, but one I don't think any Resident Evil fan wants it to take for good. Bring back, ya know..scary stuff.

Why Chris? Wasn't he in the first game?
I can understand why Capcom decided to essentially reinvent the series for 4 and 5. They probably thought it was getting stale but i remember when 4 was released and hearing the hype so i went out and picked the game up.
The game is just dull to me. There's no real tension or anything playing it. It's just run around and shoot farmers. I haven't played the fifth one but i presume it is something similar except substitute farmers for Africans or if the controversy is correct "black africans".
I always wanted a survivor horror game where it's a huge city and you can explore it by yourself while getting stalked by zombies.
Third person. Minimal ammo. Create your own weapons from stuff you find. Conservation of supplies etc.
The chances of that ever getting made are slim to none. The closest thing to it is Resident Evil Outbreak 1 and 2 but i never had a ps2 online so i could never play with other people and the games are fairly linear anyway.

I liked watching the prototype for RE4. Capcom should have just taken Leon out of that and replaced him with an all new character, as this game isn't RE material. A good name could have been "A New Haunting: Attack of the Hook Man".

I rather liked the cheesy B-Movie stuff in the old Resident Evils. They were part of the charm in my opinion.

As did I, but we're talking RE1, RE2, RE3, RE0, REmake, and RE:CV. They can't keep doing that forever and not end up coming off as an episode of scooby doo.
I mean, We KNOW where a good spot to be ambushed by dogs is, because it's happened to us so many times in the past. we KNOW the sound of a zombie shuffle. We KNOW how to deal with a hunter when it goes for it's decap attack. these things aren't new to us anymore, so having it suddenly jump out goes from being scary to being spooky in a comical way.

I'm curious to know how the main story would have been affected, had this happened instead of RE2, and I'm curious to even know what the story of this game would have ended up as.
other than the story though, I don't really care, because all of the unused gameplay elements were later seen in RE3 and RE:CV
