Did you ever want something so badly that you would have killed for it? Did you ever fall hard for hyped-up advertising and buy a shitty console or peripheral? Were you one of the unlucky kids who thought they were the coolest kid on the block for owning a power glove?

Well, you haven't seen anything yet...because what I'm about to show you is more awesome than the power glove, blast processing, the 32x, and the super scope COMBINED.

Introducing the Sega Activator! Yes, thanks to Sega's new awesome technology, you can do moves "at the speed of light" by kicking and flailing around like a loser! You'll totally beat your racially handicapped friend (who's using a gamepad) at 2d fighting games!

Did anyone here ever actually see this as a kid and want one? Worse yet, has anyone here ever OWNED one of these? Go ahead and post about whatever gaming peripherals you owned as a kid. Tell me about your excitement and satisfaction with them, or (more likely) your letdown and anger at them.

I only peripherals I've ever owned were the arcade controller and the zapper for the NES and the DDR dance pads. I never had a problem with those, except for dance pads wearing out which is expected after so much time and use.

I remember seeing a power glove type peripheral for the PS, but I didn't get it because it was $70-ish.

I have a one handed PSone controller, it only has digital d-pad, but it works really well for RPGs.

I got it when I broke my wrist, and I was really into FFVIII at that time, so it was pretty rad.

I love the Nintendo arcade stick...what was it called? The Advantage? Yeah, that was it. I beat Blaster Master using that thing.

Did anyone ever play an NES game using the U-Force?

There was some body wear for the Genesis that claimed you could feel video games... I never wanted it cause I thought it'd punch you in the face. I believe that all it did was vibrate.

The Interactor. I have a friend who once had one, and I wasn't even that impressed back then.

I had a U-force! It was only good for Punch Out!, and even then the controller worked better.

Image
I had one of the "Maxx" controller for the NES, and it sucked balls. I hated the little knob on the D-Pad that just floated around inside it.

Image
I also bought the Microsoft Commander controller, and found that it worked for crap on any RTS I tried using it on.

My favorite controller of all time:

My beloved Epyx XJ-500 joystick for the Commodore 64. The only gimmicky controller that I have ever bought and loved.

Man, the NES had a lot of unnecessary accessories.

I remember a friend of mine had a Four Score, which allowed for 3-player mayhem when we played Jeopardy, and named ourselves things like Assman. Good times.

Yeah, I had one of them too, but I realized I could just press down on the surrounding black ring to use the appropriate direction.

Same here. I actually grew to love that controller.

You don't have to worry about that. Didn't you watch the video? You just play against racially handicapped people and you beat them using your SWEET MOVES.

Was'nt the selection of games the sega activator worked for limited to eternal champions and eternal champions alone?

No way dude! It works for ALL the hottest new Sega games! Just check your instruction manuals for how to use your activator with them!

I just thought of an idea so retarded that it's awesome.

What if someone had a 16 player 8 on 8 Street Fighter 2 SCE using two activators? The way it would work is by having one person on each of the eight functions of the activator simultaneously.

That would be so stupid, it would be amazing. Think about it: It brings a whole new level of teamplay to games, and maybe now you really CAN do combinations that you can't do on a normal gamepad.

Poor SEGA Activator. It was really before its time. Not until 2000 would its technology be fully realized and apprecaited as Konami's ParaParaParadise Wink

I, too, tried playing SC2 Calibur 2 on a DDR pad. It was fun for a match or two, but it got old quick. Jeebus was playing against me using a regular controller, so no matter how quickly I stomped on the pad, there was really no way I could beat him.

Did you check your manual to make sure you activated the game correctly?

Yeah, but too bad that BEMANI game pretty much went under because it was based on a damn fad. and there was only one PS2 release.

Well, I know what I'm doing later: Playing some SC3 and Capcom vs SNK 2 on my DDR pad.
