Today on my way home from the mall and work, I got pulled over for a HOV violation. I was tired and I had never driven home that way at that time before so I forgot. The cop didn't give me a fine but I guess here in Hawaii a HOV violation is mandatory court appearance. I'm pretty pissed and I hope I just get a warning and not some huge ass fee. Does anybody know what I should expect?

You've never been to court?
Expect something like this:

I think it means he was driving in the High-occupancy vehicle lane or Carpool lane.
I had to look that up cause we don't really have them here.
I guess it's an easy mistake to make.

There is a chance it will be dismissed. I got a ticket for the same thing, the cop didn't bother to show and it was dismissed. No biggie.

Damn, bad luck Pineapple . I'm glad he didn't write you a ticket! I don't quite understand why it would be a mandatory court appearance if you don't have a fine to pay. I sure HOPE they don't assign you one in court. That would really, really suck.
Good luck! I got my fingers crossed for you.

We don't have those mandatory carpool lanes in my state either. Are they really worthwhile? Meaning to people actually adhere to that rule, or do people still just drive wherever they want and hope not to get caught?

They have them here when you drive towards Vancouver. They definitely ease congestion, but there's always a traffic jam just before it.
Yes, I've been to court before. What I meant was for this specific infraction.

That makes me feel a lot better. I'm only 19 and if I received a hefty fine, it would hit my wallet hard. All the money I'm saving up now is going towards my motorcycle gear etc.

Me too but I just wish this all never happened. I don't want to spend my morning at court wondering if I'll get a fine or get a warning. I'm either going to be really happy or really disappointed. Thanks!

I think if you don't have any traffic violations on your record and your talk to the DA and explain your situation, they'll probabaly throw it out. I've been to traffic court countless times. You might have to pay a court fee regardless of the outcome, but I can't imagine anything costing more than $60, which isn't chump change, but I remember getting my first ticket and expecting to pay more than $250. I ended up paying $90 or something.

court sucks my balls.
you should be fine since it is a minor violation. as someone mentioned, you should only get the court fee but nothing major. as long as you dont say something stupid that is.

does your HOV lane have a time limit on it? what i mean, the HOV lane here in phoenix has a sign saying m-f 7am to 10am + 6pm to 8pm or something like that. meaning that only the carpool rules apply during those hours. any other time its just an extra lane, from what i understand. so, if it was late and your HOV lane is similar, then you should be ok
