Well, my tax return is being deposited into my bank account on Friday, and I am going to be buying some new guts for my baby.
I am getting:
AMD 965 Black Edition 125w
MSI 790FX-GD70 Mobo
8GBs DDR3 1600 (Either G.Skill or Corsair, not sure yet.)
XFX Radeon 5870
24" Acer 1080p monitor.
Total cost of upgrades: $1100
My wife will be getting the guts of my current system:
Intel C2Q Q6600
8Gb Mushkin DDR2 800
EVGA 780i Mobo
2 EVGA 9800GTs in SLI.
Anybody got plans for their tax refunds yet?
(I posted this in Video Games, because my PC is my primary gaming system.)

While they are nice and easy to use on the go I prefer having the power of a desktop.

All the guts are accounted for.
My wife gets the Q6600 setup, and the Opteron 146 setup in hers is going to my dad in exchange for a laptop.

I haven't gotten a tax return in years. I always owe a little bit.

This thread makes me barf with jealousy. My 1 GB of RAM isn't cutting it anymore.

It's just an older P3 laptop, but it will work for office and wireless net browsing.

Well, got my toys and got them installed.
I am loving them.
Crysis Warhead at Gamer settings, 1920x1080, 2xAA, and holding 50+ FPS.
GTA IV Benchmark = Avg 58.7 FPS. (Max Settings. 1920x1080)
This is a real gaming machine! It makes my 360 weep softly in its little cubby hole under the TV.
Also, even though the i7s are better (and way more expensive,) I am amazed by the AMD Phenom II 965 125w. After I install WIn 7 and ran some burn-in benchmarks, I kicked the Multiplier from default 17x (17 x 200MHz FSB = 3.4GHz) to 19x (19 x 200MHz FSB = 3.8GHz) just to see what would happen. Rock solid. Passed all tests with flying colors and no voltage adjustments needed.
Having an unlocked multiplier is awesome. No more having to waste all that time trying to find the perfect stable balance of FSB / Voltages / RAM speed & timings / & HT speed to overclock.
I think tomorrow, I'll see if I can get this little beast up to 4GHz. Then, we'll see about overclocking the 5870.
