I bought a ROB

So I bought a ROB the robot the other day for $20 at a used game store, and I'm wondering what all was included with the robot. This is what I got for $20:

ROB
2 Gyro discs
1 Gyro spinning machine (uses D battery)
1 plastic piece that has 2 black parts at the top (most likely used to hold Gyros).

Everything looks pretty good and works, and to my knowledge the only thing I'm missing is a similar plastic piece with red and blue caps. Does anyone know if there was anything else packed with this?

I have no idea what the answer to your question is, but that's fucking awesome.

Yes, I actually already own the game "Gyromite" and I tested it out.

What I had to do was actually run the game in order for ROB to work, and sure enough...he worked right away. It probably helped that I cleaned him extremely well piece by piece.

That said, I have absolutely no idea how to play Gyromite, I got ROB to move the Gyros but it didn't open the doors I'm supposed to go through.

Also something I noticed about the Gyros themselves, the glue doesn't hold any longer, and I'm not sure if there's a special glue needed, since I'd rather not fuck around with something like super glue in this case.

Also can anyone confirm or deny if I need anything else that came with the Gyromite set of ROB? I know I need the blue and red tray, but before I commit to buying one I need to know.

It's ok...I mean it's a pretty basic game and it was a launch title for the NES so it's extremely basic, even for a game involving a damn robot. I can't actually really play this game since I'm missing a piece that holds the controller (the blue and red piece I mentioned earlier).

Stack Up (the other ROB game) looks much more fun to play, but it's incredibly difficult to find a complete Stack Up set, unless you want to pay a few hundred dollars.

Professor Hector, the character from both Gyromite and Stack Up...what ever happened to him? Why didn't he ever get more of a career? He looks like the prototype for Dr. Wily...I'm amazed Nintendo doesn't bring him back at some capacity.

Unfortunately, you are missing the most important piece to play the game. You used to put the second controller in the piece you are missing, and when you used ROB to press down on the red and blue buttons it would press the corresponding buttons on the controller moving the pipes. On the earlier stages you didn't need to spin the gyros, just press down on the buttons while ROB was holding the gyro. Later, when there were red and blue pipes that needed to be raised at the same time you needed to put the gyro in the spinner first so both could be pressed down. Hope that helps.

Also, there was also a piece of translucent plastic that went over ROB's eyes to help him function better too. I never had to use it though, so it really wasn't necessary.

It's missing two important pieces: Ally Sheedy and Steve Guttenberg.

jackfrost is right. R.O.B. just uses the Gyros to hold the controller buttons down, and you give him commands by pausing the game and inputting stuff (the flashes on the screen control what he does). It's a completely unnecessary gimmick, just find another person, or better yet, play a better game.

There was another R.O.B. game called Stack-Up, where you manipulated him to...stack blocks up. Yup. It required a completely different set of adapters for him.

I actually found it more fun to just use my feet to push the red and blue buttons like pedals. It still made the game unique to play, but not as boring as it would have been waiting for ROB to do the same thing.

In fact, after I got ROB I think I only used him twice. I thought he made a better decoration than a peripheral. I still have mine sitting on a shelf in my house to this day.

Yeah, I've got a pretty decent sized collection of NES games (200+), and felt it was necessary to get ROB, but Stack Up is going to be a pain in the ass to track down.

As far as the eye piece...does anyone have a picture of it?

He wouldn't be so bad as a peripheral if he weren't SO FUCKING LOUD.

Absolutely. I used to have mine on a shelf as a decoration before I had to abandon it.
