When I was a kid, we've been on welfare for 1 or 2 years after my parents divorced. From what I remember, the government was fucking annoying,
asking all kinds of personal questions to make sure we needed the money, sometimes reducing welfare when my mom got a raise, etc.
So if you're on welfare, don't try to do shit. If your situation doesn't change, they won't ask any questions.

It should be the exact opposite. After some time, unless you're invalid or stuff like that, they should cut your welfare if you still aren't working.
You have kids and can't take care of them anymore? Too fucking bad. How can people too lazy to even get a job be able to raise kids properly anyway?
They'll be raised by family members or other people who aren't fucking morons.

Welfare should only be useful for those who actually try to get out of their poverty. If you don't try anything, you'll get your welfare money, but your life will be a fucking hell.

I've lived for 10 years with people on welfare, and most of them were fucking douchebags, including their kids.
If you want to act like the trash of society you should be considered as such.

That's was one of my points to my friend. This should be handled much like unemployment, which is also a joke but better joke.

Here's how I see it.

There are people who actually need government help.

There are people who do not and are trying to abuse the system.

There is no real good way to tell the former from the latter (yes, there -are- ways, but none are really worth the effort).

Most people, including myself, would rather err on the side of a few fucktards getting benefits wrongly than a few who desperately need them not getting them.

I'm not sure what the solution is, but I don't know if there is one that saves more money than it costs.

Honestly, welfare and government assistance is important nowadays, what with wage pay on the decline over the last several years. Even hard-working people with good budget sense have a hard time just getting by without even important things like insurance. Hell, one of my family members just finally gave in to welfare just so she could pay for her son's health care.

And since this man is a southern Republican, I assume (don't know for sure) that he's probably against teaching about birth control in schools, which makes him seem like more of just another talking head. I'm a large supporter of birth control education (especially in smaller countries). It seems like it could help prevent widespread poverty, and stem the spread of congenitally-spread diseases. Unfortunately, the Catholic Church crosses its arms and holds its breath when anyone encourages it, and they tend to threaten to take away their missions when it is considered in aiding people in poor countries.

Also, there indeed does need to be welfare and unemployment reform. Whether blame could be placed on an increase in poverty, increase in single parents, or a change in culture of how this assistance is used, it's gone from a system intended to keep our economy from crashing to just being waste.
